These are my favourite lyric lines from one of my favourite songs "Into the West" by Annie Lennox
"Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You’ve come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore"
~
"What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come to carry you home"
~
"And all will turn
To silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass"
~
"Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say, we have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again"

Heh, time for me to be totally weird now, lol. I love music so much it's hard to decide, but I guess, if I had to pick the lyrics that just moved me the most, it would be from the finalé of the opera "Cavelleria Rusticana", where Turiddu bids farewell to his mother before going out to get himself shot to death. The music swells and the emotion pours out:
TURIDDU
Oh! nulla!
È il vino che mi ha suggerito!
Per me pregate Iddio!
Un bacio, mamma...
Un altro bacio... addio!
It's nothing!
It's just the wine talking!
Pray to God for me!
A kiss, mother...
And another kiss... farewell!

Neill Finn: Weather With You-
"Julius Caeser, the Roman Empire, couldn't conquer the blue sky....
I just think it's full of bravery and confidence...sorry that's a really bad way of explaining it but I couldn't think of a different way.

I really love Marcus Foster's lyrics, here just a few examples:
"Have you ever seen the haunted ancient morning sweep the stars out from the sky"
"Muffled sound is scattered in the street that's lit by moon"
"There's a bird at the window with smoke in his lungs singing off key"
"You got to drink up the dark that spills onto the night"
"The morning lays a frosted sheet of gold along the plane"
"You embrace the silence of the night until you try to fill it up with silence"
"The silent sky is folding up the evening with the same old sigh"
"As the morning spreads the light another feeling sheds its skin
As the day is worn the right way round its twisted from within"
"And only restless silent thoughts exactly know just what you mean"
"I am taken by the ghostly fog that spills from your eyes"
"I can't conquer all the crooked land that fills up your mind"
And so on . . .
I just love the words he chooses, all those vivid images. <3

I really like this one, it's very romantic:
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember till you're home again
You belong to me
This one from Mark Knopfler is also one you can't get out of your head anymore once you've heard it, and I like the story behind it:
Southern bound from Glasgow town
She's shining in the sun
My Scotson Lassie on the border run
We're whistling down the hillsides
And tearing up the climbs
I'm just a thiever stealing time
In the Border Reiver
(he's singing about a lorry here ;D)

one of my favourite (funny) lines is from the German band "...but alive":
Klar kannste dich mal melden, halt nur nicht bei mir.
(translates to something like: sure you can keep in touch, just not with me)

Tough, you think you've got the stuff
You're telling me and anyone
You're hard enough
You don't have to put up a fight
You don't have to always be right
Let me take some of the punches
For you tonight
Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don't have to go it alone
And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you when I don't pick up the phone
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
We fight all the time
You and I, that's alright
We're the same soul
I don't need, I don't need to hear you say
That if we weren't so alike
You'd like me a whole lot more
Listen to me now
I need to let you know
You don't have to go it alone
And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you when I don't pick up the phone
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
I know that we don't talk
I'm sick of it all
Can you hear me when I sing
You're the reason I sing
You're the reason why the opera is in me
Well, hey now
Still got to let you know
A house doesn't make a home
Don't leave me here alone
And it's you when I look in the mirror
And it's you that makes it hard to let go
Sometimes you can't make it on your own
Sometimes you can't make it
Best you can do is to fake it
Sometimes you can't make it on your own

My favorite song quotes are from a german rapper, actually he's quite a philosopher and a poet.
"Diese Wunden in mir, sie sind nie verheilt, denn tief ist das Fleisch, doch bodenlos die Seele."
(Something like: These wounds in me, they have never healed, for deep is the flesh yet abysmal the soul.)
"Und ich wünschte, ich wäre ein anderer Mensch. Und ich wünschte, die Welt wäre leer und von einsamer gnädiger Stille beherrscht."
(And I wish I was a different person. And I wish the world was empty and dominated by a lone and gracious silence.)

At the moment I'm obsessed with the lyrics to P!nk's "When We're Through".
Especially this little bit of the chorus: "Life is just a little part of what the world will do". It sounds so emo; but to me it's not all that sad; life is a great thing! Being alive is what it is about... and yes sometimes it's tough.

Avantasia - The Seven Angels
You've been fighting for your soul
And sometimes it takes a toll
Hope one day you'll understand
What it means to hold in hands
What they call a fantasy
It is nothing but a key
To the world that now you're in
That they call a wicked dream
