Thoroughly Sherlocked

Hello everyone! I've been searching for weeks for something like this - every time I googled Sherlock fans all I got was info sites and Tumblrs. I am in desperate need for a safe place to anonymouly fangirl the heck out over my new favorite show and the latest in my long line of future husbands, Benedict Cumberbatch.

I started watching the show on Netflix a couple of weeks ago, just out of pure bordem. It was sitting there on my page as one of the random selections they chose for me. I'd heard of it, and I'd recently seen Ben on Graham Norton and I think Graham gushing about the show had a little to do with why I clicked on it. I'd heard it was good but was expecting just sort of a pleasant distraction. Instead I found one of the best shows I think I've ever seen.

It also didn't take long for me to go from polite appreciation to drool-soaked altar-worshiping fangirl where Ben is concerned. I drempt about him after watching the first episode for the first time ;p

So excited to start talking to you all! From a quick glance it looks like a pretty global fandom, which is very cool. I'm in the U.S., where everyone will now hopefully find out how awesome Ben is from that big spaceship movie he just made

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Welcome to the forum, Merry!

I think you just found a nice, happy place where you can spend your time. We also have a very popular Benedict thread here that you should check out.
Anyway, have a nice time here and make yourself at home. Cuppa?

Greetings from Germany,
Mary

Hello Merry.
Fandom is indeed global and I like it very much. Quite nice introduction. I'm curious how looks Your future husbands line.
Cheers from Poland.

Hi there! Oh my gosh, I know I'll forget someone but here goes:

Ben Daniels
Gary Oldman
Benedict (obviously)
Michael Fassbender
Jamie Bamber
Ioan Gruffudd
Sean Bean
Richard Armitage
Viggo Mortensen
Damian Lewis
Dominic West
Noel Fielding
Alan Rickman

I might have a slight anglophilia problem.

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Hi Merry, warm welcome from me as well
You know there is a movie with Ioan Gruffudd and Benedict together?

I knew you'd say that, Harriet.
Welcome, Merry, from another Anglophile. I think you've found the right place. Nice to have you here. And, yes, I'd recommend the Benedict photo thread as well. Can take some days to browse it but it's worthwhile.

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

It is Amazing Grace (how apt a title!)  I admire your list and clearly you have great taste as you have included my personal crush...no, it isn't Benedict- please don't think badly of me-  and he actually isn't entirely British.  Dominic West is also mighty fine and Damian Lewis has a lovely voice!  I also really like Rufus Sewell, James Purefoy and Joachim Phoenix- amongst others.  I must say that overall Britain, often but not always via its drama schools, produces a lot of very, very fine actors and presenters (like Graham, for instance).

Oh, hello and welcome by the way! I seem to have got a little distracted!

Well, some say in that movie they are BFF, others would call it OTP

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Woot woot woot!  Great enthusiasm! Welcome! I had a similar experience myself, been a fan for maybe a couple months and then I started musing about joining a chatroom/forum of some sort...I found this place and was like "BINGO!" . It is an awesome Sherlockian place (with many Benedict Cumberbatch pics lurking about ) and I hope you have fun here!

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Davina - who is your crush???? I will admit that my biggest crush at the moment is also not Benedict, although he's very close. Really my crush is more on Sherlock though. But anyway, currently my heart throbs most for Ben Daniels. Also, your avatar is *killing* me. Is that a nod to the otters-that-look-like-benedict-cumberbatch meme, or do you just really like round adorable baby Asian small-clawed otters? Cuz I do.

Harriet - I've SEEN Amazing Grace! Oh well, I guess I'm gonna hafta rewatch it! Right along with Tinker Tailor, which is where I first saw Benedict. I remember really liking his character in that and literally wishing I found him attractive. I should probably confess that I don't think Ben is all that pretty, not like Michael Fassbender or Dominic West. He's odd-looking, which I love, and there's a THING about him. He has a...you know...je ne sais qoui. I like that it's that and not the way he looks that makes him sexy, very much like Gary Oldman - not classically good looking, but oh so hot, at least when he was younger (I personally still think he's hot but I have a thing for old British guys).

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Ha…. kind of a cool coincidence!   Having only been slowly catching up as well on watching the boys in things they were in before Sherlock (as I wasn't aware of them before, for shame), I just borrowed a copy of 'Amazing Grace', myself!  Just wanted to say very, very good so far… despite having to pause it in between a couple other things at the moment.  ;P
Admit I didn't even know who this Ioan Gruffudd fellow was.  Very nice too…  especially seeing those two in a 'period' film together, even one with which I didn't recall the historical timeline very well.  The same went for the talent and story in Tinker Tailor, and if you liked Benedict in that style/period kind of thing, I strongly recommend snatching a look at 'Van Gogh: Painted With Words' (people have uploaded the whole thing to youtube), where his vivid expressiveness is just as amazing as the story of the beloved tortured artist!    Welcome!

We solve crimes, I blog about it, and he forgets his pants.  I wouldn't hold out too much hope!

Just this morning you were all tiny and small and made of clay!

I'm working my way up the greasy pole.  It's… very greasy.  And…  pole-shaped.

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Enjoy, both of you!  Merry, I don't think one has to find Benedict the most pretty guy on earth planet to find a good place here.
I myself am still rather Sherlocked than Cumberbatched.
(However, I find Benedict way more beautiful than pretty.)

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Ha! My crush? Well his first name ( like Benedict's) is also that of a saint and his surname means 'cooper'.

What I find amazing is how Dominic West can look so different, depending upon the role he is playing, likewise Benedict.

You need to add Tom Hiddleston to your list...only a suggestion...Try and catch The Hollow Crown if you haven't seen it.

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Hi Merry,
Welcome to the forum!!  Looking forward to reading your posts! You sound like a true Sherlockian with a serious Benediction ;) I'm a newby when it comes to that (i just discovered Sherlock and benedict for about 2 months ago) , but my Benediction isn't less serious, haha

I was just wondering ( i accept it if you want to stay anonymous when it comes to personal info); how old are you?

Greetings from the Netherlands, Foy

Re: Thoroughly Sherlocked

Lol, your intro almost matches mine - have been a fan about a fortnight and am totally in love with Sherlock himself, the whole show and Benedict. It's bringing me a lot of happiness and this place is awesome! xxxx
