Re: Johnlock fan art "WARNING-> may contain adult content"

I'm still not getting this.
Sherlock is perfectly clear.  John is just too stupid to understand.
Sherlock is clearly saying he doesn't do relationships.

There's nothing to "get", BB. We who see slash everywhere will continue to do so, no matter if no one understands us or why we think that way or not. Everyone watching the show gets to see and interpret  exactly what he wants to, in every scene and in every line of dialogue. That's part of the fun.

This little sentence under the pic sounds quite convincing to me, too.

To me, Sherlock isn't as in control and relaxed as he wants to appear. No wonder - this is the hell of an awkward conversation with someone he's met only very recently.
Of course, he is clearly saying that he doesn't do relationships. John understands this perfectly - he is not stupid. And accepts it: "It's all fine."
But - Sherlock's "thank you" at the end indicates his insecurity concerning the matter. Being his unwavering self (as he would be in most situations) he would rather say nothing at all but an awkward "thank you".

John: "Have you spoken to Mycroft, Molly, uh, anyone?"
Mrs Hudson: "They don’t matter. You do."

Re: Johnlock fan art "WARNING-> may contain adult content"

Indeed. It was a very thoughtful "Thank you".

Re: Johnlock fan art "WARNING-> may contain adult content"

I think the unaired pilot was much more explicit.

I just love the way John lowers his tone and looks around him before telling Sherlock "I wasn't asking you out" (in the "real" pilot he just says "i wasn't asking" if i remember well) and Sherlock's face is just priceless!

And that's what I've always thought about this scene (the picture with the caption someone posted earlier): Sherlock reads people like open books. He is so skilled with body language and all, and he was thinking John was asking him out! I'm even surprised he doesn't get all like "what!! I've made a mistake!!???"

Absolutely! Thanks for putting it in a nutshell!

That's nice to hear! Has someone already adviced placing a mattress next to your desk, just in case?

Re: Johnlock fan art "WARNING-> may contain adult content"

After seeing it mentioned with high praise at least a dozen times here I decided to look up and read "Alone On the Water.'

I know realize the severity of my mistake.  While beautiful and moving, I am far to new to Sherlock fandom to deal with the emotional after-effects of such a fan fic.

Now, I you'll all excuse me I intend to spend the next hour or two in the fetal position clutching my Tinkerbell blankie and sobbing WHY WHY WHY!

Come hang out on the Benedict pictures/photos thread. Big active thread and many of us are extremely silly. We all have our thudding mattresses in place, you know, to fall on when we swoon. I've also added a cold shower nearby, so when I need to cool down, I can.

Never bypass the author's notes and story tags. It might seem boring to look them over before you begin reading, but a good author will always rate their work appropriately and also post appropriate warnings and/or use appropriate tags. Madlori is a seasoned fan fic author, so I can't believe she didn't give that story an extreme angst warning or something similarly worded?

OK, I just looked it up on AO3, and she's tagged it as euthanasia, deathfic, grief, and angst, so there were several clues about the kind of thing you were wandering into, as was her brief summary, "Sherlock Holmes never expected to live a long life, but he never imagined that it would end like this."

To me, that's the fun of fan fic-- it takes me places where I never can go with the show. Some of them are good places, some are difficult places, but I find most of them fascinating, even though a few can be tough reads. For myself, I've learned if rape and torture are in the tags or warnings, I either head for the hills right away, or I begin to read with one eyeball on the door, ready to slam it shut and run away.

Did you read madlori's Performance in a Leading Role? Lovely, adult, lots of love and romance, I enjoyed every word. It's a huge, long read. She is almost finished writing the sequel and says she has no idea when she'll be able to get it out there, but I hope soon.
PIALR is here:

Rated explicit, definitely an AU, but "our" Sherlock and John are readily recognizable.

Oh honey.  I WAS warned.  I knew what it was about.  I just arogantly thought I could handle it.

Didn't expect to feel like my heart had been slowly dug out of my chest wtih a dull fork.

OK, gotcha. you wandered in where angels fear to tread. I've done that on occasion too. But I'm kind of an angst sicko and don't mind crying over fic. Somehow I'm able to remember that it's all pretend. Usually.

madlori is a really really good author. She wrote Harry Potter for a long time (not slash, but het fic), then I found her when she was in the Brokeback Mountain fandom, and now here she is in Sherlock. Very capable author, and she knows how to "getcha", as well as tell a good story.  I cried when I read AOTW, too.
