Random thoughts...

I watched the trailer whose link was posted some screens back: So obvious that Chris Pine is way outclassed as an actor in that scene.  It was like watching a grown-up talking to a child.

As for watching the movie with other board members: KeepersPrice and I are hoping/planning to do that, too.

But, question:  Why, since it's a Hollywood production, is the movie opening in other countries first, before opening in the US on May 17th?  It's so unfair to make us Americans wait so long!   I mean, here is where it all started...

You know.... not to put down the "original" crew at all, because they really are great, but... it is kinda sad/kinda feel sorry for a little, no?  With Ben in the picture, considering both his talent, and the media continuing to pay more attention to this strange-awesome-British-guy, he's getting a lot of the accolades.  In that scene, Ben just exudes steeliness, and Chris has been a good actor, don't get me wrong, and great emotion on face and eyes, but when he speaks, the anger just almost seems... forced?  I remember that from the last movie, too... Ben 'playing' angry, on the other hand....  oi... uh, let's just say I can't wait to be blown away by those moments..... and it certainly won't seem like he's playing.    ;)

(and who knows, Sherli.... they're doing that with IM3, too, and have with plenty others!  probably to do with touring schedule?)

Just stole this from Molly in the gif conversation thread. It made me think of next week.

*SHRIEK*
Can't they give warnings before showing the trailer on TV? Maybe a short message like "please sit down, you'll see the trailer in 3..2..1.."

Re: Star Trek

Just watched the Star Trek clip in german translation. I winced when I heard Benedict's dubbed voice. Well, it's okay actually. It just doesn't sound right to me. However, the german synchro has the advantage that Kirk appears to be more confident and controlled.

LOL--As a matter of fact, I usually say US American when speaking with people in my locale, precisely for the reason you stated: I had friends from Canada who took exception, and rightly so, to people who did not include them in the definition of American, and when I teach about Mesoamerican history to my students, I make a point of telling them that people in Mexico and Central America are also Americans.  I actually thought about using US American in my post but thought it sounded pretentious!  So thank you for the reminder!

The voice isn't bad. Not the original, but it could work for the German audience. And you're right about Kirk, too.

Re: Star Trek

I saw the trailer last night before seeing Olympus Has Fallen. I thought it was great. Benedict's voice is, as always amazing. My girlie had a sort of John moment saying, 'Stop it! Just stop it!' to me. You can imagine why. I must say I really like Chris Pine et al as well. The advantage Benedict has in this role is that his character is not already established from waaaaaay back to the original series. I know that the series has been revamped but there is still that history to the characters.

I am really, really looking forward to seeing the film even though it'll (and I'll) end in tears (possibly).

Re: Star Trek

I'll take some tissues, too. But if this is a sort of prequel to the later adventures and he's one of the established villains he might survive. But it's better to expect the worst. As for the voice - incredible.

Well, let's see:
Start Trek The Motion Picture - no real villain, just a probe, hence no dead villain in the end
Wrath of Kahn - Kahn is dead in the end
Search for Spock - Kruge is dead in the end
The Voyage Home - no real villain, just a probe hence no dead villain in the end
The Final Frontier - Sybok is dead in the end
The Undiscovered Country - Chang is dead in the end
Generations - Soran is dead in the end
First Contact - The Borg Queen is dead in the end (sorts of, in a 3-dimensional way)
Insurrection - Ru'afo and Daugherty are dead in the end
Nemesis - Shinzon is dead in the end
Star Trek (2009) - Nero is dead in the end

Doesn't look that good for Harrison...

Last heard of her on Saturday, or was it Sunday?

Will you bring your own shock blanket, or should I bring one? Oh, make that two!

I think his voice in Star Trek is much better than his voice in Sherlock. After watching the original versions of the series, I don't like the german dubbing any more.

That's my countdown as well.
Do you like Star Trek, too, or are you just watching it for obvious reasons?
