This question doesn't really make much sense because each episode of Sherlock is a movie but I was wondering if they would do a theatrical release in cinemas. The Americans seem to convert many of their TV show into films but Brits aren't as into it

I don't think so... after all it's "just" a TV show. Though I really would appreciate it...

Maybe an anniversary extended version for Sherlock S10.

Doubt it frankly.

If something isn't broken, no reason to "fix" it!

I doubt that our traditional distinction in television and cinematic movie will be relevant any longer in 10 years time!

So u count net based entertainment in the same category as well? there are now youtube only channels but their production value is much lower than TV & film; they make up for this using humour some of the best comedy around now exists only online - they have not ventured into tv & film spin-offs just yet.

I reckon all these new platforms will merge further in the near future.
Some colleagues of mine already watch and alter movie clips on smart phones etc; we also have fan fundraising for movies (Veronica Mars), podcasts that now come with slideshows, webisodes to go with television shows (Doctor Who) and user-generated content that gets picked up by producers.. a mediatised world!
