Oh, well I'm going to be a devil and say that the last episode was... awesome!! And the trailer for the next one... I think I'll die until Saturday.

Hey, now....  hush, you!  ;D
Fortunately, I freaking finally got to see both the last two I missed, thanks to single eps on Amazon.  And yes -- pretty awesome.    But, please tell me I'm not the only Whovian who was curiously reminded of a certain oldies rock song and just had to look it up again to listen to the whole thing, promptly getting 'the hungry wolf' stuck in my head all day long!  Thanks, Mark!!

And even without knowing the 'classics', it's so neat to see the trend of 'nods' to past adventures... the 'love letter to the show/fans' as you will, that they described the run leading up to the big special would be.     Still a little uncertainly wondering/amused at what big 'scary'/'danger' mind twist will be under the surface.....  the Intelligence and Silence comments we were making a couple pages back?  Think it's both?

What with the Doctor staying in shadows, even his greatest foe asking 'Doctor Who?' (and they've made a point to have it happen a couple more times since!), teasing about the words Dorium left us with the last finale, about "the fields of Trenzalore, the fall of the Eleventh, and the Question"… the question he'd been running from his whole life.  I really hope it's clever (and doesn't necessarily mean a fatal 'Silence will fall/Fall of the Eleventh).  ;)   Better watch out for those ickle Silence….  ;)   (speaking of which, very amused there's been minor internet buzz here and there again, like last year, with geeks concerning April 23 being the date from the show when the Impossible Astronaut appeared, and marking it (pun intended) as a tally mark day with those distinctive tally marks on arms, to have a bit of inside joke fun with the world... sure you've probably heard of that, too... ha).

Re: Doctor Who

Yes, I do think so. Somehow. Because they made a big deal about the Silence and the... silence. Nothing, not even a sligh mention, so I think they're trying to take our minds off the Silence, making us think it was just a tool in the River plot (and by the way, I'm not satisfied with that either) and then surprise su. But they left that little thing with Dorium. So, short answer would be, yes I certainly think we'll see the Silence again.

Been back since Tuesday and have caught up with the two episodes I missed. You know what they say, 'An episode a day keeps The Doctor away'. Hang on a minute...that can't be right!

Re: Doctor Who

Oh, of course.  Just was recalling all those previous snippets of bait, wondering where it fit, and if the 'fall' was metaphorical or not…  (…wow.. talk about the writers in past year doing a bunch of little similar 'nods' between both their shows lately!!  kinda hilarious!  ;p  ;) )
Even love it when they rib at the Doctor's own words and situations.... remember it came up in recent thread, joking about his attitude of 'never knowingly be serious?'   Well, what does he go and say in the last episode but respond to taking the crisis seriously by saying 'I'm always serious.  ...With days off.'   Uh huh.   And thought you might've seen this, but was a LI-ttle more than excited and curiously wary the instant I saw the new promo pic (this is for the 50th special):

Lookit who else is mentioned!!  Yaay!!!  ;D   (although I'm not the only one, surely, who is both "hopefullycuriouslyfascinated" and yet mixed about them tackling such a big Thing as is the Doctor's name, that's always been such a facet of the show since the beginning to make it a part of the very special anniversary tribute and, as we've mentioned, already been teasingly skirted around with connections to prophecies already....   Still maintain/hope it's a really neat and clever twist, knowing them, because part of me somehow doesn't want to know what his name is, or even non-verbally shared with all the characters he's in contact with, and keep the mystery!)

Re: Doctor Who

I just posted a link to that.

Personally, I don't think they'll reveal his name to us. Maybe someone will find out his name and use it as a weapon or something, but I don't think we will know it. Because if we know his name, it's no longer "Doctor Who". River knows his name, so maybe it's exctracted out of her. Who knows. (I did say River has to come back, didn't I?)

Remember how he tells Amy the words in Old High Gallifreyan could "raise empires and destroy Gods" is harnassed correctly. And then is some Classic episode, the Doctor's name appears in old Gallifreyan as δ³Σx². His name is also said to be Theta Sigma which may just be a "translation" of the mathematical thingy I just posted. Although the first letter is delta, not theta.

Re: Doctor Who

Excellent episode. Nods to the past, plenty of Tardis, good central love story. Last couple of minutes a wee bit unnecessary perhaps. Used the haunted house genre well. Who is Clara? Why doesn't the Tardis like her? I really, really enjoyed this episode.

Re: Doctor Who

I  haven't seen it either.   I  get it in  4  hours from now.    I've  caught up with  most episodes.   An  episode a day  keeps the dr away?   no,  that's not right.   HAHAHAHA  clever to think that.   I  don't think River KNOWS  what the dr's name is.   If she does,  then HOW  does she know it?   We  know that River is Rory and Amy''s daughter.   and yet,  she knows more abt the dr than anyone else.   HOW?

Ok  I  missed most of  the rings of atkhaten (sp?) episode,    but  There is one episode in  which Clara leaves the tardis,  and  the doctor stares out at her with a sour look on his face.   Anyone notice that?   How come?

And what do you mean,  the TARDIS  doesn't like Clara?  Ohhh---  it  doesn't let her in  that one time?  yeah  I saw that part.  Oh  dear.   I  thot the dr gave her a key already?

Re: Doctor Who

I don't think my post contains any spoilers. It is all pretty obvious from the first minute. Tardis problem with Clara has been in previous episodes too.

Re: Doctor Who

No,  there weren't any spoilers,  davina  .   I've just seen the episode.  I  like haunted houses,  as long as it's not too scary.   And  the minute that one line was uttered by the doctor,  I  thought,  OH  please.  not another reference to Sherlock Holmes!!!   when Are they gonna stop doing that???  This leads me to thinking  (and hoping)  that a cross over show will be done.   you know,  the dr pops over to 221 B Baker street in 2013,  and asks for Sherlocks help,  and  It  becomes a 2 parter,  with Sherlock solving the mystery.   I've had that dream for awhile.   kinda weird.

I get the feeling I've seen that house before. on another ep of dr who.    Anyone notice?

Re: Doctor Who

@Davina I didn't read your post, just the few words.

@Skitty The TARDIS certainly doesn't like Clara for a reason. My guess is because she's not possible, she's a paradox or something and the TARDIS doesn't like paradoxes. Also, River knows his name. The first time we see her, she wispers his name into Ten's ear. Apparently, he could only say his name to someone he married. We're not told when she finds out his name, but she does.

Re: Doctor Who

Ok. I am pretty sure that this was filmed at Cardiff Castle. Filming for the series did take place there and everything about the place fits e.g. The arches windows etc. now to find out if they have used it before...

It has also been used in Torchwood, taking centre stage when Cardiff was being bombed (Exit Wounds). It was used for night filming for Doctor Who in the Snowmen episode. It was used for corridor scenes in The Almost People and The Rebel Flesh.

Re: Doctor Who

POST CONTAINS SPOILERS!! Keep moving if you haven't seen the episode!

I loved that episode. I agree with the Clara is a paradox thing. Although the TARDIS did open up to her in the end. Whether that is because the TARDIS knew it was the only way to save the doctor I'm not sure. I loved the 'you can stop holding my hand' 'I'm not' scream bit too. I thought it was sweet that the Doctor went and helped those creatures. So by all accounts Clara is just an ordinary girl. So I guess she is just projected into different periods in time with no memory of the past/future but with a couple of implanted thoughts like 'Run you clever boy and remember'. I can't remember does Oswin know the Doctor when they first speak or is that their first meeting? (I know it's the first for the Doctor, wibbly-wobbly and all).
Also the slither of ice in his heart was interesting too. Very curious!
