Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

I like this one very much. I had read the first 24 chapters and then there wasn't an update for quite a long time. I'm very happy that it's complete now and I've nearly finished reading it.
I can only agree with what you said before, the development of their relationship and Sherlock's learning to trust John is very well done. The Mystrade thing is not so convincing to me but maybe that's because it's such a far cry from what we see in the series.
All in all a very enjoyable read.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

I think there isn't too much Mystrade in it, for people who don't like the pairing. I like Mystrade, because Greg and Mycroft are totally different characters. (Opposites attract!) I think the sentence in  "I don't do everything what your brother tells me!" in "Baskerville" was a starting for many Mystrade writers.(And maybe the fact that Mark said Rupert is dishy )

Anyway, Sherlock is very Sherlock-like in that story. And the Sherlock/Mycroft relationship is very convincing, too.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

First the bad news - this one's a WiP. But it's brilliant and I hope it will be updated soon. Wordstrings is also known as Katie Forsythe writing (as KP aptly put it) vintage slash. I recommended these stories in another thread.

It's not AU but she tells the whole Sherlock/John/Moriarty story from a different POV. And, gosh, this woman can write about love (yes, I envy her. Honestly).

I have just fallen in love with the expression "vintage slash"!

Yes, I'm very happy with it, too. KP and I love her stories. Nothing for canon purists, but wow. Some passages I read two or three times because they're so beautiful.  And the same goes for her "modern" stories as well.

I'm reading it right now. I think I need to put some time between reading that and writing myself. Her writing is so ... artful. I envy her.

Are there really canon purists who are also neck-deep in slash? I mean, srsly. Just by its very nature, a Johnlock story is going to be outside of canon.

My fave S/J stories are the ones that weave a Johnlock relationship into canon, but from what I can see in this fandom, AU is really common, if not the most common, scenario. And I love AU as well.

I'm a pretty cheap date, lol-- I just love Johnlock. As long as it's well-written, and the author can make me believe it, I'd be happy with a story where John and Sherlock take a rocket ship to Mars and live the happy life in their little domed space house. Seriously.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

I dont think there are. You're either a purist or a Johnlocker, I guess. KP and I just wanted to say that the stories are placed in the classic ACD context with gaslamps and hansom cabs and all that stuff. And in a time in which this sort of relationship was a crime for which you went to prison which adds a certain thrill/flavour/heartbreak whatever to the stories.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

What exactly qualifies for being a Johnlocker? Can I also be a part-time Johnlocker?
At least I know for sure I'm not a purist - neither way

Also interesting: Sherlock Fandom Glossary says
"Johnlock: n. The romantic, sexual, or completely platonic pairing John and Sherlock. Often known as OTP of OTPs. One of the most known pairings in the Sherlock Holmes fandom."

So most of the platonic bromance folks would also be Johnlockers?

... but there may be some new players now. It’s okay. The East Wind takes us all in the end.

Sure. You can be whatever you want to be! When it comes to fan fic, anything goes. There are loads of people who enjoy their fandom's fan fic in all its incarnations-- gen, ship (m/f relationship) or slash (m/m or m/f). And in our fandom, we actually have two forms of canon-- what I call original canon, the ACD stories, and then the BBC modern canon.

Sherlock Fandom Glossary says "Johnlock: n. The romantic, sexual, or completely platonic pairing John and Sherlock. Often known as OTP of OTP

I don't agree that Johnlock can be platonic. To me, plantonic just means friendship, not slash, based on canon. The very word Johnlock tells me that their relationship is slash, and that the two men are.... locked!  And as for OTP (one true pairing), that IMO can never be simple friendship. No, Johnlock is just what we think it is!

I imagine Sherlock/John is most people's OTP in this fandom. We have seen John/Lestrade and John/Mycroft, etc, but....  I think those pairings and pairing interests are way more rare.

My question was in the context of Susi's post that brought this bold purist - Johnlocker theory in

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Good question. I once read a fic in which they had a lifelong platonic relationship in which Sherlock was asexual and John dated women just for sexual release. I found it a bit strange. Not really my cup of tea. I prefer a relationship with all the trimmings/lock, stock and barrel or whatever English speaking people may call it.

This author is you? Cool beans.

Unfortunately, it's a WIP, and I don't read WIPs-- too many left orphaned, plus I have absolutely no patience for waiting for a week or more between installments. I see your story is a scenario like madlori's The Blog of Eugenia Watson, where the guys are raising a daughter. Interesting. I am VERY interested in reading this, can you let us know when it's finished? Thanks.

Yep, I'll admit to it. It's an old psued that I've been using for a very long time. I will certainly let you know when I finish it! Huh, I thought I was doing something original, lol.

You should read madlori's The Blog of Eugenia Watson if you haven't already. Wonderful work. But there's no reason why yours shouldn't be original in every way-- there are lots of stories where the guys are raising a child. I've read 2 or 3.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Did you read the first part of this? http://archiveofourown.org/works/728441/chapters/1352624
I'm not sure what possessed me into switching over to 1st person, but its been in my head like that for weeks.

Awesome, I will certainly check out The Blog, too. I've read a few where they have Hamish (and some pretty creative stuff, too!) they are some of my favorites. I never knew how much I would love fanfic, and now I'm completely addicted. I'm still amazed at myself for even trying to write any of it--I haven't written anything but poetry and term papers for years.

I wrote and published about 35 short stories in my last fandom (Stargate SG-1, my OTP was Jack and Daniel)-- what fun! Like you, I hadn't written anything besides grocery lists, patient clinical notes, and an occasional message in a greeting card in like decades. I cannot write in this fandom, though-- I have no ability to reproduce Sherlock's voice or his inner workings. LOVE reading it when it's well done, though.

I always found one of the biggest decisions I had to make before sitting down to begin a story was 1st vs. 3rd person, and if 3rd person, then whose POV to use. Part of the fun, but part of the work, too, for sure. PM me if you want to chat about this or anything else about writing.

I'm reading "Saving Sherlock" at the moment; it's very long. Will bookmark this story of yours, though, and make it next!
