US Soldier, Sherlock fan

Hi. 25, f. I enjoy Sherlock, its fandom, its fanfiction, and its tumblr following very much. I can relate to John very much as a character, now that he's been updated, though I branched logistics, not medic. I mostly lurk on tumblr and AO3 but I'm looking to get involved in a forum again and I've seen some fascinating topics on this one, so. Yeah. That's about it.

You forget, I was a soldier. I killed people! You were a doctor. I had bad days!

That's cool!   How did you come across it in the first place?

We solve crimes, I blog about it, and he forgets his pants.  I wouldn't hold out too much hope!

Just this morning you were all tiny and small and made of clay!

I'm working my way up the greasy pole.  It's… very greasy.  And…  pole-shaped.

Re: US Soldier, Sherlock fan

I was trying to remember how I discovered Sherlock, and I don't. Hubby says I read a review online and forced him to sit down and watch it with me for the first time. I love reboots and modern day adaptations, so it sounds correct that I would read a review and be interested enough to tune in.

Yes, still serving. Not a medic, like John, but in a company with medics, so I am familiar with what they do, mission wise. Andof course we all receive CLS! I can stop a sucking chest wound just by giving it a dirty look.
While BBC John's military service isn't detailed at length, if British Army P&P is anything like American, he might have direct commissioned as an Army Doctor or gone through Basic Training as a medic, and then gone through officer training and branched Medical. I am currently going through officer training myself, though to branch something else.

I know there are Brit-pickers out there. If anyone needs me to mil-critique their fics, I am up for the task. I once read a fic wherein John was magically called back up to deploy, despite being medically discharged and not in active or inactive reserves, and Sherlock went in his place, despite not being enlisted/trained for it, and despite the fact that the military doesn't work that way, one person offering to substitute for another's deployment. It was cringe-worthy.

Re: US Soldier, Sherlock fan

Wait until you read Fanfictions in earlier decades that feature cell phones, and do not get me started on the criminology, firearm and drug description - remember, it is supposed to be a 'flight of fantasy'!

Anyway, you might be interested in http://wellingtongoose.livejournal.com/7505.html ..

Your posts both made me laugh you two. Especially seeing Sherlock waving a gun around...as you do!

Yes ma'am. But I don't use mine to scratch my head (most of the time!)

Re: US Soldier, Sherlock fan

I should hope not! Have you ever seen A Bear Named Winnie? Reminds me of David Suchet's character on the firing range.
