Hello from Italy

Hello, I found this nice forum and I just couldn't resist registering.
I have just discovered "Sherlock": a friend of mine told me about it and... ok, I am hooked. It is the best thing I have seen in years and I don't get excited easily.

I first watched episodes in Italian dubbing and although I enjoyed them very much, it was when I saw them in original version that I became totally "sherlocked": (BC has such an amazing voice) Also, since I am a huge ACD fan, I am really thrilled to see how true they are to the spirit of the original novels. To move them into our times was a brilliant move!

I have high hope for exciting discussions here

greetings

Miriel

Re: Hello from Italy

Welcome Miriel,
first dubbed version, then original version, then hooked/Sherlocked - that sounds very much my story.
Wise decision to join us - have fun!

Buona sera! You live in Rome? How nice. I've been to Italy several times, it's such a wonderful country.

Re: Hello from Italy

Welcome, Miriel, nice to have you here. For me it was exactly the same. I first watched the German version, bought the DVD and … fell in love with his voice.

Re: Hello from Italy

Hi, thanks for your welcome I am glad to meet kindred spirits here.

Well, dubbing... Italian dubbing is supposed to be very good, and it is, actually, but there is no comparison between BC original voice and the dubbed one. Also, it's rather funny to compare the changes in original/ translated scripts.

Don't make people into heroes John. Heroes don't exist and if they did I wouldn't be one of them.

Re: Hello from Italy

Hi Miriel, I watched Sherlock in English first and I was thoroughly hooked in less than 10 minutes.
The real shock though, came when I bought the italian version for my niece and I watched it with her.
They murdered it! I'm surprised someone could become a fan after watching the dubbed version. I didn't really enjoy the changes either, most of the jokes are impossible to translate. The beginning of "The Great Game" is completely ruined.......

Re: Hello from Italy

Hi tiharoa, may be not ruined completely, since I enjoyed it, but well, I think I wouldn't become "sherlocked" if it hadn't been for the original version. It already happened to me a couple of times, with the Lord of the Rings, for example: liked it in Italian version, loved it in English.

Re: Hello from Italy

Well, I haven't watched series 2 yet (I'm not really looking forward to it), my niece hopes the dvd will have italian subtext next time, so she'll be able to watch it in english. It was a real shame they didn't include it in the previous dvd (pilot, commentary and "making of" also missing). .

Re: Hello from Italy

You haven't watched series 2 yet? Lucky you, I wish I still had some Sherlock to discover before the series 3 will be ready (another year????). But why aren't you looking forward to do it?
