Sounds a bit condescending to me. I suppose he doesn't know how many female Holmes experts there are.

Too sensitive.
It says only a woman; or a non-Holmes fan.

I'd agree with that; I can't see a man asking that; he would ask " does he eventually die?"
It doesn't mean all women would ask that.
Stop  looking and observe.

Also, please note that sentences can also end in full stops. The exclamation mark can be overused.
