Yes, but that's often the problem with Google. I'll send Mary a PM.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Does anyone know how to mark this discussion thread as ADULTS ONLY?  The forum-runners are letting children join up, and the moderators are very concerned that the under 18s are getting offended or sullied or something when discussions stray off into adult-land. I started this thread, but I have no power to go back in and put adults only on the title. Anyone have any clues about how to designate it as such?

I'm impressed by how many people have visited this thread, compared to everything else in the fan fic part of the forum. Well over 11,000 views and counting now. Obviously interest in Johnlock is intense here, but I'm afraid we're going to get shut down, if we can't keep the kids out.

Good question, Aggie. Maybe you should put it directly to the mods. Would be a pity to lose this thread.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Actually, when I think about it, imho none of the content here is NOT suitable for minors.
The fanfic sites we link to have their own access modes and we don't discuss things here in an inadequate way.
We discuss whether we like a story or not, after all, but we don't talk dirty here, right?

Also, do you really think youth who are old enough to watch Scandal will be alarmed by an occasional S word?

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Right, but if I remember correctly (probably better than I should), some of the links given in this thread lead to sites where adult content is shown without any warnings (mostly Tumblr). So a warning in the thread title would be reasonable, I think.

I can agree with that, I'm also a fan of precise warnings.  :-)

After edit: But I think they are more useful for each recommendation

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

We don't link to artwork here very much. In fact, the stated purpose of this thread is to recommend S/J fan fic, not artwork. When posting a link to a story, it's then the responsibility of the authors to have their works "covered" with appropriate warnings. Some authors are good at that, others not so much.

Most of the posters here on this thread don't take the time to repeat the ratings and warnings when they post a story rec, but geeze, you know, at some point, we have to trust the other people here to do the work themselves. If someone KNOWS they're offended by mature-rated fic, then all they have to do is read the authors' warnings and the short descriptions of the story content and then steer clear of whatever they're squeamish about.

I always assume we're all adults here. Apparently I'm mistaken about that, but...  I guess I forget that they let babies into the forum, and we have to be aware of that.

I contacted a moderator today about adding an ADULTS ONLY caveat to the title of this thread, and she couldn't do it (the system wouldn't let her), but she's going to contact the administrator to see if she can. Meanwhile, hopefully we can all use the good common sense and judgement the universe gave us when we were formed in the womb-- I trust that most of us have some and that we know how to use it.

I think the problem (if there is one) with this thread is that it's HOMOSEXUAL content we're linking to-- just my theory about that. If Sherlock or John were all over some woman, no one would bat an eyelash. But Johnlock, oooooohhhh, so scandalous! So risque! So....wrong! (hear the sarcasm) I dunno, but when I started this thread, i made sure the word Johnlock was in the title.... and I also mistakenly figured that anyone who would lose sleep over the very idea of Sherlock and John doing the deed would not venture in here.

This is the 5th major fandom I've been deeply involved in, reading and writing and reviewing slash fic, and this is the first one where I've found such a strong pervasive undercurrent of disapproval about slash. Hmmm, no idea why, but I find it curious.   OTOH, have you guys checked out how many views this thread has so far? Thousands and thousands. So obviously, there is a lot of interest coming from somewhere. Not everyone can be wandering in here by accident.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

You have a point, Aggie. There still seems to be a difference made between heterosexual and homosexual content. Don't know why. In Germany we have books on the bestseller lists that I wouldn't read myself nor give my teenage daughter to read. They can be bought in every bookshop and nobody cares. But, and I suppose that's the big But, they're all about heterosexual matters and relationships.
And you're right, the "success" of this thread can't be pure coincidence.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

I cannot over state how utterly hilarious this short fic is. It's not Johnlock, but it does attempt to contain slash so I'm putting it here rather than the other thread.
You guys seriously have to read it.

Shopping List - June
Summary: John secretly writes femslash. Possibly about Sarah and ‘Anthea’.

I nearly cried from laughing.  This is brilliant. It seemed as if I heard Sherlock's comments as voice-over.

I'd roared with laughter twice just in the first paragraph. And the juices comment OMG. You're right though, the author definitely got the tone of Sherlock's coice absolutely right.

Thank you, Ivy! And I see it's labeled as adult content, just to cover all the bases. Thanks for doing that; it was needed.

OMG I can't believe I didn't rec this one before. It's an AU, uni story where Sherlock is older than John.

Back in the Day

John's drunk and some idiot's got himself high in the bathroom. It's a shame he's the only trainee doctor in the house.

A Johnlock story set while John is at university and an AU in that this time Sherlock is the one who's a few years older and is trying to find something to keep his interest in London after getting bored and being thrown out of Uni.

That was amazing. I'm generally not so keen on AU but it isn't too AU. And there were scenes during which I was holding my breath. Now I'll have to look for the sequel.

To access the sequels in these series you just click on the double arrows in the series name. So for this one, it's The Faithful Compass series.
The next one is One Fixed Point in a Changing Age

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Ok so this one has showed up in my searches numerous times but the summary turned me right off. I mean, Mycroft manufacturing children of Sherlock's for John post-Reichenbach sounds preposterous and insane. However, I finally caved and gave it a try and I am so glad I did. The story is not really about the children, but about Sherlock and John. It's incredibly well written and takes you on a rather involved journey through their lives before and after The Fall.

Multiply (The Sum of Our Parts)

After Reichenbach and in order to 1) Keep Sherlock alive, 2) Keep John alive and 3) Get Sherlock home to England as soon as possible, Mycroft devises a plan that will not only incentivise John's continued sanity and survival but force Sherlock to come running. It is a perfect plan, though perhaps less than ethically sound. He has no doubts that using frozen samples of your younger brother's sperm to create children for his husband to care for falls deeply within the realm of socially unacceptable behaviour, but it is efficient, and that is what matters most.
