Re: 50 Typical British Traits (from Metro)

So I'm not British either (sorry!), but I've always wanted to move to England, so perhaps this will tell me something about my chances of fitting in. XD

Top 50 'typically British' traits
1. Talking about the weather - Yeah, sometimes. Mostly when I don't have anything else to say.
2. Great at queueing - Hm, dunno about that. I guess so. *shrugs*
3. Sarcasm - No, of course not. Why would I love sarcasm?
4. Watching soaps - Yuck.
5. Getting drunk - Never done it, wouldn't know.
6. A love of bargains - Who doesn't love bargains? :O
7. A love of curtain twitching - Not especially. I hardly ever even touch the curtains.
8. Stiff upper lip - No way, haha! I'm a very emotional person and don't usually mind expressing that. As long as I'm alone. XP
9. Love of all television - Definitely not. Most television is crap.
10. Moaning - In what context? :O
11. Obsession with class - Nooo? Why would I care? Ha.
12. Gossiping with neighbours over the garden fence - Well, not really. Though at times my neighbors pop over randomly for visits, so I suppose that might count?
13. Obsession with the traffic - I hate traffic. Traffic is disgusting. I don't know if that makes this a yes or a no.
14. Enjoying other people's misfortune - No. Just no.
15. Inability to complain - I think everyone has the ability to complain. Whether they USE that ability or not is a different matter entirely. And that'd be a NO by the way. ;P
16. Love of cheap foreign holidays - Why not? Unfortunately, there's really no access 'cheap foreign holidays' where I live.
17. Working long hours - Naw, I don't work. I'm a student.
18. A soothing cup of tea to ease worries - Oh, lord, yes. I love tea. <3
19. Eating meat and two veg - Hm, I'm a part-time vegetarian, so nope. XD Haha.
20. Looking uncomfortable on the dance floor - HA! The thought of me on a dance floor is hilarious.
21. Feeling uncomfortable when people talk about their emotions - Ahem. Yes, well, I like to think I'm a good listener... But I don't really know what to say when people start going on and on about stuff.
22. Clever sense of humour - I can have one when I want to.
23. Obsession with property values - Nope.
24. Pandering to political correctness - Nope.
25. Road rage - Nope.
26. Being unhappy with our weight - Sometimes, yeah.
27. Wanting a good tan - Nope. Being pale is awesome.
28. Being proud of where we live - Not really. :/ Florida is boring.
29. Not saying what we mean - It depends on my mood.
30. The ability to laugh at ourselves - Who would survive without it?
31. Washing the car on a Sunday - Sounds fun, but there's no point in washing my car. I live on an extremely dusty road -- if you wash the car one day, it'll be covered in grime again by the next.
32. Taking the mickey out of others - No, never. Well, maybe at times. When tired and grumpy and working on long papers. xP
33. Asking people about their journey - No, I never really cared about how company got there, as long as they got there in the end.
34. Inability not to comment on how other people bring up their children - Haha, I usually keep my thoughts to myself.
35. Jealousy of wealth and success - Nope.
36. Being overly polite - Sometimes.
37. Texting instead of calling - YES.
38. An inability to express our emotions - Not an inability, but perhaps a hesitancy.
39. Obsession with the Royal Family - Not really, seeing as I don't live there. Maybe if I was actually British.
40. Fondness for mowing the lawn - Never actually done that, so no.
41. Love of rambling through the countryside - Especially when it's raining.
42. A love of all things deep fried - Mmm, pretty much.
43. Emulating celebrity lifestyles - ... It depends on whether you mean the characters or the actors. Characters yes, actors no.
44. Leaving things to the last minute - I'm currently writing a paper that is supposed to be four pages long and due on Monday. I just started.
45. Irony - <3 Irony.
46. Keeping our homes neat and tidy - I try to anyways, does that count?
47. Take decisions and accept the consequences - What else can you do but accept what's been thrown at you? :O
48. Achieving against all odds - At times.
49. Wanting our sportsmen / teams to fail - Sure, why not?
50. DIY on a Bank Holiday - Not really.

Sooo... I'm not really sure HOW I score on this thing. A lot of them depend on the situation. xD But I think it was somewhere around twenty, haha. I guess I'd stick out like a sore thumb over there, lol.

To this I would add: animal lovers; disapproval of 'showing off'; rooting for the underdog; wanting to own your own house; breaking rules but not doing so openly; being slightly eccentric; enjoying putting successful people down; not stopping to let pedestrians across the road unless at a crossing; walking across the road when pedestrian crossing says not to; expecting things to be badly organised (because they often are).

7. Love of curtain twitching- for reference this actually means being nosey about the activities of your neighbours but watching in a secretive way.
14. The German phrase which is sometimes used in English for this is Schadenfreude.
