This is quite a long story which starts with Sherlock getting sick and John caring for him. In this situation their relationship develops from friendship into something more. Strong emphasis on the dramatic and emotional side, but there is also a case to be solved. Characters are quite convincing. No AU. Rating: explicit.

I've read this one, too. I've read so much in the last 6 month I lost track.

I made a Tumblr post about the commonalities I've noticed in Johnlock fic. Anyone got anything else to add?

Oh, I like that post, Wholocked. Maybe you wish to add something about the great importance of the bathroom for variety of purposes (sickness, experiments, hygiene and all the others I don't have to describe in detail ).

1: All they eat is take away, and toast

And I would add that all they drink is (hot) tea. Good grief. Surely Brits must drink something else?  ???

I might add to the list that only John can make Sherlock's tea. Sherlock is incapable of putting the kettle on, getting the milk out, finding a cup, etc. This in spite of what we saw in BBC canon, when he very capably put the tea on for Moriarty.

I would also add that they only sleep in Sherlock's room. Very rarely is "the room upstairs" part of any story, and when it is, I've never seen it described. We've never seen it in canon, so I guess the authors are clueless or disinterested about making anything up.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

They always mention the body parts in the fridge, John checking for them or if they have contaminated the little bit of real food to be found in there.

Regarding the time of year it's usually winter, at least cold, which may be due to the fact that they film the episodes in winter. And it offers more in the field of warming up in bed or on the sofa, preferably under a shared blanket or duvet.

Winter is a time of illness, too, so more opportunities for putting someone to bed. Ahem.
It's cold so Sherlock can wear The Coat as well.
I'd love to see a full-summer canon episode with no coat, 'cause I'm curious to see how the costume designers would dress the both of them. Would the show be the same without all that dramatic coat swirling and upturned collar and the scarf he's always fiddling with, not to mention John's military-looking black wool and leather thing? Prolly not.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Interesting thought, Aggie. Do they film in winter so that he can wear the dramatic coat or did they adjust his costume to the season? Which reminds me of the hilarious pics of Benedict wearing the white down jacket over the Belstaff.
I'd surely could think of some nice ideas for summer costumes. *fighting thoughts of tight fitting shirts*

I think the harsh, wet Welsh weather came first. On the commentaries, sometimes one of them mentions the cold and how miserable they get in it.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

I'm in the middle of "To Light Another's Path".  Good grief, but these fan fic authors just keep getting better and better.  This author must be a pro the way this story is woven and how the words flow.  Excellent murder mystery tied in with angsty Johnlock - will they or won't they. . This work just can't be from the pen (or keyboard) of a rank amateur.  I'm so jealous - and now add tired and cranky to that because I'm besotted with this good stuff and I stay up way too late reading it for my own good.

I see people on here mentioning they are reading fan fic on their Kindles. How? Is it because you have the newer versions that can go out on the internet?  I have one of the first edition Kindles which is basically just a book reader and all I can go is get books from Amazon.

And I said "dangerous" and here you are.

I don't know but if you can get books from Amazon then you've got a Kindle address you can send files to. Just try to download a fic to your computer, say as a pdf file (there are more file formats to choose from) and send it to your Kindle address.

John: "Have you spoken to Mycroft, Molly, uh, anyone?"
Mrs Hudson: "They don’t matter. You do."

I BELIEVE IN SERIES 5!

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

KeepersPrice rec'd a non-Johnlock fic to me recently, and I wasn't going to read it, but now I'm so glad I did. It was just terrific-- humor, angst, hurt/comfort, action/adventure, stellar dialogue (wait until you read her Sherlock voices-- both internal and external-- what a delight!) And IMO it was also a pre-slash story. Not sure if this fandom uses the pre-slash category, but this one certainly fit it. Enjoy!

I read it. It's brilliant. And I think you're right about pre-slash. Loved the supermarket scene, was laughing out loud when reading it.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Found another one, "Electric Pink Hand Grenade" by BeautifulFiction. In this Sherlock's suffering from terrible migraines accompanied by side effects like synaesthesia. Very imaginative and dramatic and of course an ideal basis for a budding romance. Sexually explicit but quite mild IMO. Warning: I occasionally get a migraine myself and wouldn't recommend to read it in such a situation.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

So, I started reading all the fanfic on AO3 by doing a search for Sherlock TV and sorting the results by hits. I think I've read through most things up to page four. Now I'm doing the same on Fanfiction.net

I found this one there - it's quite sweet and pre-slash

You Can Imagine the Christmas Dinners
Sherlock drags John along to Christmas dinner with Mycroft and Mummy And "Anthea", too . Over the course of the evening, John realises that everyone in the room - apart from him - seems to think that he and Sherlock are a couple. Shenanigans ensue.

It's quite similar to Once More With Feeling - not sure if that one has been recommended here yet.

Sounds like a daunting task, Wholocked.  Thanks for the rec, it's just fitting now that snow's falling outside my window.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Just finished this one - it's 13 chapters (60k words), set after Season 1

Semper Fidelis
Moriarty frames John and Anthea of betrayals which cause both of the Holmes brothers to cut them off, and they then try to clear their names. Violence, het and slash: Mycroft/Anthea and John/Sherlock.

Just read "Once More With Feeling", very nice and fluffy. Especially after "Two Two One Bravo Baker"  . Thank you so much for your recs, I guess it'll take me years to work myself through the fanfic universe.
