American Splendor
Cloverfield
Hannibal Rising
The Intruders
The Ward
Jackie Brown
Room in Rome
The Crazies (2010)
The Spy Who Loved Me
The Living Daylights
No surprising gems among those films. "American Splendor" I saw for the second time now and that's still a very good movie. If you like comic books and Paul Giamatti I recommend that one. Also if you like to see a film where two women are naked in a hotel room 95% of the movie's running time, check out "Room in Rome". "The Ward" and "Hannibal Rising" were really big disappointments.

Watched Snow White & The Huntsman and much to my surprise Kristen Stewart didn't ruin it for me. Course, she also didn't speak much at first. Chris Hemsworth was mighty fine, as usual. And, Charlize Theron was properly wicked. Overall, much better than I expected and a fine take on a classic tale.

Tonight (well, technically it's now 'last night') I actually got to see The Wizard of Oz at this beautiful old fashioned single screen cinema. It was a weird experience. It has got to be the first time I have ever seen an audience cheer and applaud at the end of a film.
Also it was strange to watch a film from my childhood at the cinema and realise that I have actually forgotten quite a lot of it.
I now like this cinema so much (because it's relatively quiet and tucked away in a corner) I am contemplating forgoing my trip to the Odeon and watching The Hobbit there instead.
Not so much a film recommendation as an experience recommendation... I need to see more films obviously.

Wow, I would love to see The Wizard Of Oz on a movie screen, I bet it was an amazing experience. It's one of my favorite films and it would be a wonderful to experience it as you did.

I've just watched "Peters Friends" again. I love this film so much. For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, it's with Ken Branagh (who is also the director), Stephen Fry, Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie. I highly recommend it!

I have watched JFK, mainly because of Gary Oldman, because he's f***ing brilliant, well he's f***ing brilliant in everything!

Saw Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" last night. Wow! That's all I can say. Daniel Day-Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones (and probably Sally Field) will be nominated for Oscars for sure, no question. What an amazing American history lesson this movie was - and what a portrayal of a wonderful president to whom, we in the United States, owe so much. He was exactly the right man at the right time.

Saw Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" last night. Wow! That's all I can say. Daniel Day-Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones (and probably Sally Field) will be nominated for Oscars for sure, no question. What an amazing American history lesson this movie was - and what a portrayal of a wonderful president to whom, we in the United States, owe so much. He was exactly the right man at the right time.
I was also eagerly waiting to watch this movie the moment i heard about it.. I also heard that Liam Neeson was earlier considered for the title role..I feel a bit sad for Liam now.. (coz he is one of my most favorite actors and I wished to see him portraying a role of significance!! ) :-(

Yes every 5 minutes a well known song from the 80s/90s.
A film that involved this 4 people must be good. My favourite quote from this film is when Emma Thompson says to Stephen Fry "Fill me with your little babies!"
By the way, there are three Hogwart professors in this film!

Oh dear HQ, I really think you should give this movie a try anyway. It was a well know fact that Lincoln's voice was described as rather high pitched; and, from what I heard, when Lewis got the role he spent hours and hours researching everything about Lincoln, mannerisms, voice, etc. His portrayal is brilliant and it's the overall effect you should try to look at, not just one aspect. The movie not only brought out Lincoln's ability to relate and empathize with just about everyone, but also his quiet intellect and the fierce political savy he could use when necessary. Even if you don't think you will like his portrayal, I bet you will like Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens - very kick-ass.
BTW, my husband is a Civil War buff and he said the actors looked remarkably like the portraits of the real people. Probably more Oscars for the costume and make-up departments.

Just watched V for Vendetta. Not for the faint-hearted but very, very good. Great cast including: John Hurt, Roger Allam (yay!), Mr. Fry, Rupert Graves (yay!). Just a bit disappointed with Natalie Portman's accent and would have preferred a British actress in the role, if I'm honest. A film with a clear political message and warning.

I saw that in the theaters when it came out. Don't remember much of it except that I liked it. I should re-watch it and read Alan Moore's comic book that the movie is based on.

That was a great movie with a great message. Probably the best adaptation of Alan Moore's work. I haven't seen it in awhile, really need to watch it again.
