So it is right: Playing music is all about girls. And always have been. And always will be.
Ask whoever you like, they all tell you they started because of the panties girls.
Sad when all band members leave. Could be nice to work as a duo though. My husband's band are four and there's always some trouble. And discussions. And quite often one is sick or has to work, so actually they are a band of 3.  I wish you luck!

My son played bass in high school and college in a nice band. He's a DJ now.... no more fussing around with bandmates who don't show up, want to argue, drink too much, etc. Still lots of music, lots of groupies, but no band hassles. ??? I dunno, I'm a girl, so I confess that I don't get the "let's do a band" thing.

Re: Chit-chat

Girls, I've played for almost 25 years and I can tell you, you don't get girls by playing music. Or then it's just me.

Re: Chit-chat

I think it depends on what you play, and where. Guitar & drums tend to be pullers.

I didn't say "you get girls by playing music". All I said was that most people I know or read interviews about started playing music in order to impress the girls.
If they really were successfull.......... well....................

As a teenager, I was always hot for the bass player and the drummer. No idea why. Thump, thump, thump does it for me, I guess. *g*

I married a former drummer and keyboarder. What does this say about me?

It says that it worked for him

I married a former keyboarder and today's e-guitarist. But I am as clueless what this says about us.
I didn't even like all the music he's playing. He's "rock", I was a "disco queen"

So a couple months ago our singer left from our rock band. Now in the last two days the bass player left to be an attourney and our drummer said he's out too. So now it's just me, my cousin and the keyboard player. We had rehearsed a dozen or so songs for 2 years and never got to get up on stage.

But from every pile of ash a fenix rizes. Me and my cousin have been warming up the idea of putting up a acoustic duo for like a year now and it seems there's no better time to do it than now. Our working title is Konami Code and we'll be playing cover songs mainly from the nineties. Thinking of doing stuff like Nirvana, Greenday, Transatlantic, Extreme, Sting, The Beatles and so on. I sing and play guitar, he plays guitar. Wish us luck. Can't wait to see the panties start flying.

Sorry to hear about the band, Dramagod. My muscian husband says never to get a band t-shirt or take a really good studio photo. The band always breaks up the next week.

Seriously, though, I think the acoustic duo idea sounds great. When do we get to hear it?

Re: Chit-chat

'Sherlock Holmes Stories' was a catagory on Jepoardy tonight. They did A Study In Scarlet, The Dancing Men, The Five Orange Pips, and a Scandal In Bohemia, all used in Sherlock ( and the Red-Headed League). Must not have been any Sherlockians on, no one did especially well with it. Anyone here would have run the catagory.

Not me. I missed all of them except the Study in Scarlet one. I had never even heard of the Red-Haired League and The Dancing Men, so....  not all of us here would have done much better than the contestants. I wonder if it's because I'm an American that I have no background in canon SH. Neither my husband nor I were ever required to read or study about SH in the schools we went to-- and that was back in the day, when we had loads of required reading in our English courses. I think most of our required reading was by American authors, and when we did venture to British lit, it was more to the works of Shakespeare and Charles Dickens.

Re: Chit-chat

If you have time to read, AG, have a go at the canon. Moftiss do base the episodes on the stories, and they throw in bits and pieces here and there from ones they don't use entirely. It makes watching even more fun when you recognise the nods they give to ACD's work.

Yes! This! Exactly this! This is what Elementary is also decidedly lacking.

What Elementary is decidedly lacking is good writers. Our Sherlock has delicious writers-- not only are they clever, they know and understand canon SH really well, AND they have wicked senses of humor. Add that talent to our equally clever, knowing, humorous and talented actors, and.....  I'm not surprised that Elementary can't match the Sherlock quality and overall experience, because what other show could?

Yes, exactly! I think the writers truly know the real Sherlock, and in my opinion it is amazing that they can combine the original character with modern society and to be able to apply all these new technologies and other advances as well. . . It's completely magnificent.

Re: Chit-chat

Believe me Sherlock Holmes stories are not studied in schools in the UK either, which is a great shame. I was thinking of starting a Jeopardy type thread thingy a few weeks ago in the Games section but was waiting for a lull in activity for its grand launch. We could do two perhaps. One based on the canon and one based on our Sherlock. How does that idea grab you folks?

Happy to report no bed bugs bitten. Bit of a tongue-twister that!

It is. And kudos to the extremely talented actors who make that show happen as well. Seriously, can you imagine any other actors in the two key roles? They took the magnificent words the writers gave them, the magnificent direction the crew gave them, and simply made Sherlock and John their own. As Ben said in one of the DVD commentaries, "Hi, I'm Benedict Cumberbatch, and I'm the Sherlock."  Indeed. THE Sherlock.

Re: Chit-chat

You know that in France, some pupils like me learn english with Sherlock the series ? In my school, we don't, but other teachers accept for pupils to see, learn and listen the serie ! I envy sometimes them ! But if I don't watch Sherlock , I wouldn't be happy to learn english ( thank you Moffat and Gatiss ).
