Murdoch Mysteries

Does anyone watch it? It's on CBC. I've not seen any episodes yet but I might try downloading some. There's actually a Sherlock one too -

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

I've watched quite a few. I first started watching when we were in Canada. Yannick Bisson is really rather gorgeous. I find the recreated model street scenes a bit poor to be honest but I've enjoyed some of the mysteries and his use of 'new' methods and equipment in his investigations.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

Hi - just to let you know, there is a lot of information about Andrew Gower (who played Sherlock in the Murdoch Mysteries episode) on my website, see the link in my signature - hope you enjoyed the episode if you managed to watch it

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

I watched the one based around a nudist colony this week. The historical accuracy and information was really interesting. The 'nudist' scenes really made me laugh thou. I have never seen so many tactically placed items in my life!

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

Is it OK if I try to revive this thread? I absolutely love this show.  Murdoch and Sherlock are my favourite detective shows.
Don't know whether you'll see this, Davina, but other than the CG aerial shots they need to have (Toronto doesn't look like that anymore), they film a lot in an area of Toronto called the Distillery District which still has buildings of that vintage, so if that looks cheap or unconvincing to you I don't really know what to say because it's real.

So, is anybody on this forum still watching, or am I alone? I still love it, and they left us on a cliffhanger at the end of this season (AGAIN!), so of course even though I don't need it to be the fall anytime soon, I very much want to know what is going to happen to George.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

I am catching up with it. I love it so much as it is just so different.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

Yeah, that's why I like it, too.  I like all the references to the present day, which are always clever, as well as the inventions (Murdoch and Crabtree have invented a turn of the century version of practically everything)  and the appearances of famous historical events and people.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

Of all the U.S detective series that I was late coming to- and I think it's just about all of them!..
can I hereby declare that this is my favourite.
I like aspects of Elementary...
I do LOVE The Mentalist-
but this, just touches my heart.

I completely missed this one! Thanks for the recommendation.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

I picked up on it latterly...
it kept appearing on my TV menu.
I think once I switched over awaiting another show and caught the end of the episode that features Conan Doyle.
So that got me into it.
I also have one of the books, but don't know when I will get around to reading it.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

I hope you enjoy it. The latest season that aired here in Canada (it's made here, it's not US show) wasn't as good as previous ones so I have kind of fallen out of the habit of watching it, but I do like the characters.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

I beg your pardon.
That was slovenly of me.
I actually do know the series is Canadian and I shouldn't have lumped it in with the U.S ones!
I certainly would hate North Americans to think i couldn't distinguish between countries...
after all, I never shut up harping on about the use of 'British'!

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

Don't worry about it, Besley! All is forgiven!
It is kind of funny though, because back in March I met up with a friend of mine who is Belgian and she said that she figured out from the accents when she first watched it that it wasn't American. We had been talking about accents and how I don't sound American (which I was glad to hear since I'm not!).

But anyway, Murdoch is a series I have been watching since I was teenager and have consistently liked until the most recent season, so I hope you continue to enjoy it for some time. I don't know if you're at the point where Detective Watts has joined the team, but he is one of my favourites of the newer characters. I have also seen the actor who plays him onstage in an unrelated theatre production.

The show is such an instutution in Ontario that whenever you go see a play here, many actors will have at least one episode of Murdoch Mysteries in their list of past credits.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

I am so glad you also like Watts.
He is my favourite, too.
I do hope things work out with him.
He has had a real selection of love interests.
He really deserves somebody lovely.
Oh it's good to hear that it's such a big thing in Canada.
I would love to see the cast in theatre.
I enjoy having seen so many of the Sherlock cast in live theatre.

Re: Murdoch Mysteries

Yeah, it's nice to be able to see the actors in a different context and live and in person. The play we went to had a Q&A afterwards and he was one of the actors present for that. My mum asked him a question and he seemed like a nice guy.

So glad that he seemed nice.
Awful when your idols turn out to be duds!
