So it would be at least five or more years of waiting, right? It's five years in the UK, isn't it?
Interesting: Andrew said "we". So we're not finished with Moriarty?

Yes, it is usually 5 years in the UK...but currently, we have elections every 2 minutes!
Andrew recently gave an interview where he said if Mark and Steven could make it happen, he would like to appear again.

Bizarre article - can´t really decide after reading it if they intend to make S5 or not... and we will be forced to wait "years" for continuation anyway, it seems....

You have expressed my own feelings exactly.
I think it's the era of fake news.
I never know whether to believe things or not.
More pertinently to Sherlock: I was so wrong footed by it appearing to suddenly end at S 4...I wasn't expecting that.

I agree, I would have thought that the finale of the series would be announced with a big fanfare - instead it was held in secret....

So maybe there is hope...

I should think so. It would be very unprofessional to end a world-wide success like Sherlock on such a note, beating about the bush, saying it could be the end and then, months later, acting astonished when fans ask if TFP was the last episode (something Steven did at Sherlocked USA). And the usual argument about people being busy applied after S2 and S3 as well. I think it boils down to the willingness to do more. Where there's a will, there's a way. I would be glad to get an S5.

Me, too.

I think this is similar to what they were saying before. I get the impression that they didn't decide to finish it, so much as they decided to leave it somewhere it could finish if they weren't able to carry on. The ending we've got ties up the story, but leaves it very open to more adventures! It looks like we're going to have to wait though, even if it does go ahead!

Well we're used to waiting,,,,
It's better than my thinking we were never going to get anymore!

This is an interesting bit from Twitter. Some months old but still unsolved :

Yes I'd forgotten about that...possibly BBC budget jut said no or...you know what I'm gonna say: there just wasn't time.
I can't actually see what it could possibly have added to the story, anyway.

You do not fly location scouts to Canada just for fun and even post pics if you do not plan to include it in the story.
As for the money - they could have shot the Morocco scenes in a studio. Instead they shipped Amanda and a film team over there.

Yes but was it confirmed that's what they did and that it was for Sherlock?
Maybe it's for Dracula!

I'd like to take a look at the episodes again to find what could be picked up again in S5. I mean, it looks (to some) like TFP brings all topics to an end. So what could happen in S5? A whole new set of topics? Or is there something that is not as resolved as we think?
I would rule out a return of the Moriarty story line but the "Redbeard - dog or boy" thing could be a topic.

I suspect both of those two would be a 'No'.
For me, if it happens at all...I think it will be a completely fresh, new start.

Like what?

Certainly new cases...maybe a bit like ASIB started...
Possibly even when Rosie is quite a bit older, I dunno...
But I don't think they'll hark back too much.

John's history, for one. I'm sure he's got demons underneath the road he walks, too. The show has shown us precious little about his past.
