Speaking of that chess picture... should I take it down?

I might be thick but I can't see what it spoils... but maybe we'll know after TLD?

Where did you post it? If it's in the Official Releases thread, then might be best to move it.

I have a feeling it's TFP, but I'm maybe not basing that on any hard evidence!  I could be influenced by thinking TFP is about Mycroft.  But I do think it has that sort of feel, from what we've seen of the trailer, etc.

It is and I will!

Oh. Seems it's been removed for me

Re: sherlock series 4 (spoilers inside)

Regarding Mycroft as a villain - was watching ASiP last night and you know right there in the first episode Mycroft refers to himself as Sherlock's "arch enemy" and Sherlock calls Mycroft "the most dangerous man."

Were we told?  Did we listen?

Re: sherlock series 4 (spoilers inside)

Thanks, Phantom!

And yes, Tonnarree.  He's featuring heavily on my post-it of episode predictions.  Is that what they mean by the thing that nobody picked up on?  Something we did pick up on - the "fake" handshake with Moriarty.   I've really hoped they are going to use that in S4, and I love the idea of the double bluff.

Lola Red wrote:

I would love that actually. Mycroft would make a great villain to Sherlock (also it might ensure Mycroft's continued survival, since I have the distinct feeling that they are setting him up for something big, I'd rather have him ending up as the big bad than dead).

PS I love how that picture has suddenly become so much more exciting

Me too, Lola!

I just love the way Mark plays him, and would love to see something more in depth.  I wonder if this is part of their "insane wish fulfilment"?  Which could include getting to play the ultimate villain?

The problem is that no one saw the spoilers in that picture, but now that they put focus on it, we might see it. Bad move!

Re: sherlock series 4 (spoilers inside)

Wow, they have been very efficient with taking down the chess pic! I even checked my local folder just in case. Still there - so no Moriarty-level hacking was involved

The copyright notices mentioned that the marketing efforts would be negated so maybe it's a marketing issue first and foremost. Moftiss wouldn't act to repair the leak because they know too well: the fandom would latch onto this single so far innocent (altho extremely sexy) pic. But now the marketing guys got trigger happy and made everything worse, so Moftiss are probably facepalming themselves right about now.

Re: sherlock series 4 (spoilers inside)

This is strange, indeed ! Now I wonder more than ever about that chess picture...

This theory about Mycroft being the big baddie is growing more and more on me... That would be wicked ! It would of course be for Queen and Country ! If it ensures that Mycroft lives, I'm all for it !

So now the whole marketing dept are in the basement?

I wouldn't want Mycroft to be the big baddie. That doesn't fit with him really caring for his little brother, I think. Depends on how it would be executed.

Reminds me of that interview where Mark said they often give Mycroft really important lines but don't write them down in the script so that can't be leaked.

I think it must be PBS actually since the notices quoted US regulations (or maybe it's just because tumblr falls under the US jurisdiction?).

Maybe Mycroft pulls strings and cuts corners for Sherlock and sometimes loses sight for what's right and wrong.

Re: sherlock series 4 (spoilers inside)

I just had an idea about the chess picture. We see Sherlock making pieces fly. Maybe it's a metaphor : Sherlock will distub Mycroft's carefully set up plan.

And maybe the pieces left have also a meaning : on Mycroft's side, we can see the King, a Knight and a Rook. I don't play chess, but maybe someone has a theory ?

Re: sherlock series 4 (spoilers inside)

Kings's still standing, so Mycroft is not beaten...

Re: sherlock series 4 (spoilers inside)

But Sherlock's knight has Mycroft's king in a stalemate, doesn't it?

I've never undestood chess, so I won't be useful here ! But I think the pieces are important...

Sherlock's knight is sitting between them, watching.

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Is that really either S 4 news or a spoiler?!

Sorry if I metioned the chess picture prematurely I has just seen it randomly on Twitter and did not know it was not official. Think we should look closely though
