From everything I read, I cannot help but think that it will be the last episode ever... I mean, Moftiss must have planned an ending if they couldn't reunite everyone again for series 5...
Yes, I believe it's going to leave us at a place where things "could" end. But Mark and Steven have both talked about planning out the story for S4 AND S5. Plus, several sources have said that S5 has already been commissioned by the BBC.
It's just we may have to wait even longer than usual for it.

I think they will be able to leave it for a while because - Rosie needs to grow up a bit. But specials.
As for the long game I think Sherlock wants to be Mycroft and so developed a sort of mock sociopathy. Imagine growing up in Mycrofts shadow , it is also canon that Sherlock learned everything he knows from his brother. So my pet theory is Mycroft is running a sort of cure because of TGG and TRF .
Caring is not an advantage and has been used against Sherlock . Until he realises and accepts that he will constantly be in danger. Once Sherlock factors sentiment into his equations - he will have solved TFP.

There is no commissioned S 5(never mind S 6) depending on what the rel definition of that word is in TV land.
The BBC had granted them permission to do a 5th...but there are absolutely no plans at the moment.

Here is the official BBC summary for The Final Problem. Since it is official I do not consider any part of it as a spoiler.
This makes my tummy hurt.

That sounds omnious !!
"long buried secrets", "someone has been playing a very long game indeed" : the third Holmes bent on revenge ? Moriarty's final plan ?
This is making me anxious...
@Lis : I can't help but notice the change between the two songs, from I to you... Change of perspective ?
Ah yes, definitely sounds like the perspectives of two different people, or maybe about two different people?

But I still live in hope, until I've seen anything concrete.

And Amanda is in the cast. Short version, not dead or flashbacks or just a trick?

I can't help but wonder if they showed us 'too much' of her death... "Only lies have detail"
Did we have to see the burning of the casket?

@ Susi: Either or both of the latter...possibly!

Flashbacks - needed because "Go to hell" needs to be explained.

I have every confidence it will be explained, either with or without Mary.

Quite a few spoilers in the Radio Times listing - although not any that we hadn't anticipated from setlock, etc!
Culverton Smith is a bluff northern entrepreneur and philanthropist with a great big cheesy snaggle-toothed grin, a hugely famous and adored popular personality who raises vast amounts for charity. But in the depths of his hideous soul Smith is a monster, hiding in plain sight… hmm, remind you of anyone?
I presume they're thinking of Jimmy Saville. At least that's who sprung to mind for me! It's giving me the creeps before I've even seen the episode!

The article lists Amanda as one of the actors...

I read somewhere that bus stop girl was in reality Smith's daughter ! If he plans to confront Sherlock then it explains why she would have been after John : pressure point !
Offline
I thought that was the other woman, the one we see Sherlock with.

Which one ? I don't remember right now...

Sorry, from Setlock I mean.

It think it was me who said it over in the other thread. Kind of a spoiler for setlock
. Sian Brooke was in the closing credits of TST as Elizabeth (bus stop lady E). She's very different from the setlock person, but if it's the same actress, then presumably it's the same person.people said the Lady in Red with Sherlock looked like Sian Brooke.
is Culverton's daughter.Lady in Red
I could be putting two and two together and making five! But I think TST is going to lead into TLD, and this may be one of the lines which carries over. I'm adding it to my post-it predictions anyway!Lady in Red is so different to bus stop lady as I remember - different hair, walks with a stick, etc. Which suggests she's in disguise, which does suggest she might have targeted John, which might mean that she's either a pawn of Culverton, or an accomplice ... but could still mean she's a victim. But that Sherlock won't know the truth at the start.

Ooh!
Oh and do we have a 'post it predictions' thread?
