I'm not so concerned about canon, but I do think Amanda's use of the words "flawed" and "heroine" may have been quite a big clue! I am happy to be proved wrong, of course! Either way is exciting ... but I think I would really like to see Mary redeem herself. I'm almost started to feel that's needed after HLV.
Thanks! I've got the Web site pulled up.
I'm with you there, and I'm hoping that Mary will redeem herself in Season 4. That's only right.
Yes, I saw those setlock photos, too, and it's clear that John and Rosie do accompany Sherlock and Mary. It'll be interesting to see how that goes. =)

You and Liberty named the exact thing I dislike about this short scene (hopefully just a tiny, insignificant part of the plot, but still...)
The chase with Toby was my favourite part of "The Sign of Four". It showed us the great chemistry between Sherlock and John, their bonding over the case, their lively adventurous spirit, their humour....
But in this new version it´s Sherlock and Mary scene. John is only taken along with them as an accessory, just as you say and what a toddler is doing there is anyone´s guesss (it was probably added into the scene to demonstrate how gruff and intept Sherlock is with children, IMHO).
Not a big fan of that "new dynamics".
Still, I´m curious how will this all play out in the actual episode, so whatvever... it´s Mofftiss story, let´s see what they have to say.

My thoughts exactly. I hope they would not show us anything of high importance. So scenes like that will surely be not real or at least very short-lived.

I brought this over here to keep speculations in one thread:

The quote about a big TV surprise moment made me think that maybe it won't be Mary to be confronted with her dark past after all. Or at least not just her.
But who could it be then? Sherlock?

I suspect that if it's TST, it's Mary. I think Sherlock might be facing dark secrets in a later episode. Or maybe that's wishful thinking because I would like Mary dealt with first, and save Sherlock till later.
I get the impression from the article that the writer has only seen TST (is that the only one that has been screened to press so far?), so the fact that there's a "no way" moment in TST doesn't exclude even bigger suprises in later episodes!

That's what I am thinking/hoping for as they're only referring to the first episode so it seems the big "no way" moment will be in TST and I'm guessing it is about Mary.

You guys seen Times review of TST?

God help us all.
I also think our first "surprise" is going to involve Mary;
Edited to add: Did Ben really just say these words?
“We are slasher fiction and an updated version of a Victorian classic, so that in itself plays into the world of fan obsession,”

"Never a Field Agent" sounds like a revelation about Mary's past to me. (Yes please, please!)

Definitely some interesting titles there!
I've just seen this article and it looks like they've released it too early, it's written like it should have been posted after TST airs?
"You've seen opening instalment The Six Thatchers - and now you want more!"
"...and with that cliffhanger ending to contend with..."

It's actually one of the least spoilery articles I've seen so far!

I think he probably did! He has said it before, when he seems to mean "fan fiction".

I really need to let something out... and since I guess it's a bit personal and I don't want to bother; I'll put it n spoiler tags. Sorry in advance.
I am actually scared. Very scared of S4. I am worrying over whether or not I can handle it mentally.
I have PTSD, and I have so many triggers and I'm only aware of a few of them... it takes so little to get me off balance and make me lose it.
The second trailer actually caused my a major panic attack; and I'm still trying to find out why. If it was 'only' the excitement or it was something much worse.
I'm also a little nervous that it will all end with this series. It sounds dramatic and absolutely but it helps me stick around when my head goes into 'no one wants me' mode. I often remind myself I need to stick around for more Sherlock.
But I do know this fandom will probably stick around for a while and we'll have a lot to deduce and nitpick over...
But yeah. I'm scared. I know I'm happy I'll be watching it with my best friend in case I have another panic attack or something.
Sorry. *deep breath*

Why so much promotion now, I wonder?

Here is a new promo pic from the Daily Mail. No link because I never link them.
Please note Mary's classic assassin who is not to be trusted hand posture.
The DM also tried to read fin clues for a change, but managed to overlook all that might be important: Mary's hands the only blouse she seems to own in S4, John again not looking like a father with a baby whose face you still cannot see, Molly's strange posture …
