The reconciliation is done.

Well ... Mary is still pregnant. Can't have been that long. ;-)

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

No I mean the series has moved on!
It didn't stop at the shooting.
Sherlock and John have forgiven Mary and got on with their lives.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

So what? You asked for an opinion, you got one. For me, her apologizing would be one way to exit the show through your halfway house.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

I think that I am past apologies, now. Even if she did, it wouldn't be enough for me. Her character can't be redeemed by that, not after all this, and such a long time. I honestly can't think of anything she could do to truly, unreservedly make me kindly disposed to her as a character at this point. She shot Sherlock and he very nearly died, and that was it!

I don't think you are alone in that.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

It is still possible that the reconciliation was not sincere and there are those of us who believe it wasn't.
Even if you believe it was sincere just as it was presented you should still be able to admit that there is at least SOME SMALL POSSIBILITY that you are wrong.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

That's true of any of us who ever say anything on any thread!
That's why it's a discussion forum and we discuss.
One person gives their opinion somebody else gives there...
Usually works for me.

I really, really hope that the "reconciliation" was a ruse, or-- that this can all be resolved by EMP stuff, or ...something! Yeek!

Tbh, I would prefer him to leave her from his own free will to every other possibility, especially her going down as a martyr.

I agree.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

I would prefer that neither baby nor Mary have to die...but I think they both will.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

So do I.  After all, that's canon.  (Not that the baby dies, but since ACD's Dr. Watson doesn't end up raising a child as a single father, it's canon that neither will the modern-day John.  Therefore, mother and child will both die.)

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

But the baby and Mary dying isn't going to exactly be "Groundbreaking", is it?

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Does it need to be groundbreaking?   I know Amanda was the one who said "groundbreaking" but I got the impression that she was talking about the show in general, rather than about Mary and the baby.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

In terms of Sherlock Canon: Mary+child dying would be new, so in that sense it is ground- breaking.

Actually, Mofftiss promised "Groundbreaking." Their words, not mine.

It's also extremely predictable. We live in the age of Walking Dead and Game of Thrones. Predictable is dead. (To screenwriters, that is)  :-)

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

But predictable and ground breaking are different things.
The quote you refereed to didn't say it would be unpredictable, they said 'ground breaking'!

Why yes! Predictable and Groundbreaking are different things. Therefore, the idea that Mary and the baby will die-- when most of the fandom has already spouted all over the internet that this will happen-- is not groundbreaking. It's exactly what most of the fandom expects-- so why would Mofftiss do that?:

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

We seem to be going in circles.
But in answer to the last part of your question: because they can!

Ah, I thought you were referring to Amanda's quote, because she plays Mary, and you were talking about whether or not what they do with Mary would be groundbreaking.   So why do you feel that the "groundbreaking" quote is about Mary specifically?    Or am I misunderstanding?
