Also, do you think he's citing the old Heinz 'joke' of " 57 varieties of beans"?!

• Why was Sherlock’s first thought John when he woke up?
You mean why he calls John? Well, John was the only person who could hear him.
• Why did John’s girlfriend say that John is 'a great boyfriend and Sherlock Holmes is a very lucky man’ and that she didn’t want to 'compete with Sherlock Holmes’?
It's sarcasm, for goodness sake!

Why does he have to? It's FICTION. The quintessence of shows like this is that they DON'T follow reality. (Even so-called reality shows don't do that!) Do you really think Mycroft could learn Serbian in few hours? That he is the British Government? That Sherlock could throw the CIA agent several times from the window without killing him? That he sees images from an electron microscope in his optical one? That the Cabbie really had a method? That Gen. Chan had to use the funny but incredibly massive machine to threat Sarah? That... trees are green in December?

I'm pretty sure ASIB is a Steven Moffat episode. It's his sort of thing, and also I'm sure he said it was his favourite.

@JPTo be fair, they explain the last one in the commentary!

Ugh... my post disappeared...
Well, Besley, if the makers wanted to be realistic they could wait for December to make the outdoor shoots, or just defoliate the landscapes with Photoshop. <- that's me being ironic.

Well they said, they whited out as much as the BBC budget could afford...when you're doing air shots...that's a lot of ground to cover!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who always thinks of that!

Great. We can finally stop discussing most aspects of the show. It's FICTION, so no need to talk about plausible character developement, relationships and mind palace scenes any longer.
That will save us a lot of time. We could use this time for brushing up our etiquettes in technology...

Okay, another take:
I get a feeling Mark Gatiss (who wrote this episode) didn't really think it through what it actually means to count that many messages.
Because it shows John AS IF he was a bit too interested, maybe even jealous. Maybe he would like to get so much attention from Irene - or if he didn't figured out who it was - that it's Sherlock who gets those sexy moans?
Or it's The Subtext.
And it's funny as hell.

Why so hostile?
I was merely showing examples for the show to have humorous but not-so-realistic/serious elements. There is a lot of them (I forgot to add the body parts in the fridge and the eye in the teecup). "57 moans" most probably belong to the category, so there is no need to overthink their meaning.
Can anybody enlighten me about 57 varieties of beans?

You know that there are people who assume Appledore must have been in south Europe, or even in some warm and exotic place because of all that greenery that surrounded it?

Your examples were good. The language of your post felt wrong to me. I've already tried to talk about that matter via pm but you decided to ignore it.
Btw, you often leave out the name of the person you quote. That makes it a bit hard to follow your thoughts.

I chose to answer the issue in this thread instead.
Sorry for not writing the names, but it's difficult to fiddle with the code and the forum has no multiquote function.

I see. Very telling. Well, let's leave it like that then.
I am sorry for becoming sarcastic but I really minded how you answered Vhanja's serious question. Vhanja who has a completely different opinion on the whole Johnlock thing than me, btw. This is what I demanded a few posts back, everybody speaking up in cases like that, not just those who share your opinion. Maybe we can do that more often from now on. :-)

Where did I say that they had to?

Your post sounded to me as if you criticized the writer for not being realistic. Is that not the case?

Telling what?
I had the impression that the comment also bothered another people, so I decided to explain it openly. Why is this a problem?

No, I didn't. I don't mind that they don't follow reality and I separate between real life an TV reality.
That's why I didn't mind when two seconds of wincing is all the after-effect Sherlock experiences from his Serbian trauma. It's TV, with very limited time. They have to cut corners.
That is also why I don't think the series was meant to be analysed too deeply either.
