You're implying Watson leaves Mary?
Possibly she's just died.

I am implying that the men are alone, nothing else. I do not think that Mary will necessarily die. They have been very free with Canon, especially where Mary is concerned. But it is a fact that Sherlock in his mind imagines a future where he and Watson are sitting cosily beside the fireplace with no Mary in sight.

The man's allowed a night out with his pal!

Since we know nothing as an absolute fact, John leaving Mary is still a possibility.

Tbh, I would prefer him to leave her from his own free will to every other possibility, especially her going down as a martyr.

I am hoping for the latter.

I have probably said it before: We are speculating about her leaving as a martyr or going down as a baddie. What would really surprise us would be a simple divorce.
I think I would love that.

So would I.

That would be kind of funny, actually! After all the build up.
About the above question about whether Mary would try to help Sherlock and keep him together with John - I think she kind of does that in TEH and TSOT. She seems to take to Sherlock straight away, and tries to encourage them to be together.
And about her leading them to Moriarty - she almost IS Moriarty (the bride). Not that I'm sold on that idea, but it's a possibility. Of course, she could be A Moriarty - a sister instead of a brother?

That would be quite cool.

I would be perfectly satisfied with this.

Well, we don't always get what we want.

Your sarcastic comment makes me wonder about something serious:
Is there a way to write Mary out of the show that would leave all of us satisfied?

Looks like divorce is getting the most votes at the moment!
Otherwise, I kind of like the idea of some sort of atonement and/or sacrifice. It's probably too obvious to be a plot, but it would be nice if she really did save Sherlock, for instance. Or perhaps die trying to save John or the baby, or the world in general. I think I would prefer that to another option in my mind which is John or Sherlock having to kill her.

The latter would be horrendous...though killed in crossfire, may make it more palatable.

See, I would hate to see her to leave the show sacrificing herself, and I know some other forum members who feel the same.
Maybe divorce is really the easiest way out for the writers - even though I doubt that they are actively looking for an easy way out.

Why wouldn't you want her sacrificing herself?

Because that would make a boring story-arch in my mind. Too predictable to be intetesting.
