While I was lying awake last night, I had this thought about the ' rat' part!
Specifically, how John could be brought back into the story(to eventually reunite with Sherlock)...if he's ever out of it!
Still think a rat could be a person, but stick with me a moment...
If it is a giant rat type thing...
Could Lestrade call on John's expertise as a doctor, to look at some bites/scratches on a victim...
Might he want to keep it hush hush?
