I couldn't help but want to post the 'full' pic of the one you shared from Richard III... so much fun seeing the cast goof off.
(and yes, great promo pic!)
That's a hysterical photo. I love it. Thanks for posting!

I never could figure out how those two oddball men were supposed to have sprung from the loins of the parents they showed us in that Christmas bit in one of the episodes. The 'rents looked altogether too quiet, ordinary and "settled" to have raised either one of them, lol. The writers made no effort to make the parents seem quirky, IMO. Sorry, this is off topic, don't answer me, just throwing out the thought. And yes, I realize the parents were played by Ben's RL mom and dad.

Does anyone have a bigger source of this picture? I would very much like to paint it!
It is a very interesting photo of them. I like the light and shadows. My only quibble with it is the circular ceiling thing behind Mycroft's head. It makes them look like perhaps they'd just beamed down from an alien spaceship and stepped off the transport pad. Actually, that would explain a lot, wouldn't it! lolol

@ancientsgate
The team speak about this in commentary: it was a very deliberate ploy to make these two odd ball brothers have perfectly normal parents

Personally, I think they made themselves that way. After Sherlock broke the "family atmosphere" with his deduction of their father's infidelity, it may have been Mycroft that stepped in and started the whole, "sentiment is adhorrent" thing, perhaps as a way of protecting them both from the fallout that ensued. That lead to their maturation into highly focused, cold, analytical creatures, purposefully unfettered by the distractions of emotion that almost tore their family apart. For whatever reason, Mycroft found that a lot easier than Sherlock did, perhaps because Sherlock was the one saddled with the guilt of what he'd done.
Then again, we never really get much of Mycroft's POV, so it's very possible he struggles just as much. And now I've given myself a sad.

But Mum and Dad seem perfectly happy now.

Very frowny, our Sherlock. He looks like one of those "before Botox" photos, lololol

I'd much prefer an expressive face with frown lines and smile wrinkles than a frozen botoxed one!

I don't care one way or the other, I just enjoy Ben and his Sherlock. He'd be drop-dead handsome (to me), with or without a lined forehead. Mmmmm. Totally thud-worthy.

Let's hope none of our favourite actors ever resort to botox, as it would be to the detriment of their craft:

I'm against all forms of body alteration.
Heck, I don't even like tattoos!
