I absolutely agree with you there, especially on the fake(?) death's. They always feel a bit like cheating (Sherlock's being the exception,we all knew that was coming). Also, death starts to loose it's impact when there is constant doubt about someone coming back. So for me I would say: kill her, if you must, but do it well. Or, in Steven's own words, let me behind thinking:

"It was sad. And it was beautiful. And it is over."

How many fake deaths have we actually had?
I would say only 2 because it has not been confirmed that Moriarty is really still alive.
Now, you could say that 2 out of 10 episodes is a large percentage, but it's not as large as some make it out to be.

Exactly!  It would take some explaining!
 

To use an army metaphor, Sherlock is John's brother-in-arms.  As the original Holmes was for the original Watson.

And with that said, I agree that Mary and the baby should go and stay gone, and that John should move back to Baker Street.  Only time will settle this question once and for all, needless to say, but I believe that Mary and the baby will die.

I was thinking about this while I was waiting to get up this morning.
I understand all points of view, too.
What concerns me is(my worry of) the lack of solidarity with, in fact the disloyalty and even betrayal to John.
I feel we need to try and get inside John's head and see how he feels and thinks about Mary.
I don't see why people would want to be joyful about Mary's potential death, when John may well be broken by it.
It doesn't seem very supportive of or understanding towards him.
Possibly he just see something there that we don't.
We may not like Mary, but we have to accept that John just might. I just feel that some people may become isolated from the character of John, if we cannot feel compassion.

Here is a little meta I have written. No speculation, just plain facts taken from the scripts:

Sherlock, John, and Mary - Terms of Endearment
So I had a look at how Sherlock and John describe each other, leaving out terms like “idiot” and “annoying dick” (even if they are not used in an insulting way) and concentrating on positive descriptions. I came up with this list which surely is not comprehensive but should provide a sufficient basis:

John about Sherlock: 

brilliant
amazing
quite extraordinary
fantastic
my best friend
the most human … human being
you were the best man
You were the best and the wisest man that I have ever known.” 
“’Course you’re my best friend.” 

Sherlock about John:

This is my friend, John Watson. 
My friend John Watson
the bravest and kindest and wisest human being I have ever had the good fortune of knowing
invaluable
one feature, and only one feature, of interest in the whole of this baffling case, and quite frankly it was the usual. John Watson. 

Then I had look at how John who is supposed to love Mary talks about her. Guess what? I could not find a single positive word or expression. Nothing but negative or neutral terms and I looked at all the episodes. This is what I found:

my lying wife
the woman who’s carrying my child who has lied to me since the day I met her
client
assassin
my pregnant wife
my wife

Not a single term of endearment, not even during the engagement or at the wedding. Sherlock at least once calls her “clever” whereas for John Mary seems merely reduced to her functions: wife, assassin, client. The language is quite telling, if you ask me.
