Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

My hypothesis of yesterday´s scene:

Our drama queen is helpless. He hired the dog to track down the criminal, but the dog won´t move because of the amateur´s ineptitude. Sherlock calls his friends to pull him out of a quagmire:

Hurray! The cavalry is here! Awesome professional Mary and her husband came to the rescue!

Mary takes the leash and leads the chase of the criminals, to show those two amateurs how it´s done properly:

John grumbles that their stroll with the baby was rudely interupted by his bored friend. So after the criminal is successfully tracked down, Mary takes John and her daughter home:

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

We are going to find only a normal meat in the freezer, in my opinion. In an original story, the dog was mislead by the strong smell of some substance and lost the criminal while pursuing the wrong carriage. Here, the dog will lead them to the butchers because he smelled the meat, probably.

Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

I mean really, she looks great.
But honestly, what is ' posh' about the hair?
It's just a normal hairstyle to me.
Though I accept, given in the context of John's different, hair, too..
Oh I did mean to add to my previous piece, that scene does have something of a fantastical feel to it.
But yes, Nakahara, good point on distracted dog.

Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

I meant to say, although her hair looks "done", Mary's outfit doesn't look like the sort to wear to a christening (not after such a dressy wedding!), so I don't think they're coming from or going to it.   The dog might not belong to them, but a lot of people get adult rescue dogs now (and breeds often have their own rescue associations), so it's not unbelievable that they would have an adult.

Are they filming the episodes in order?  I suspect that third episode is going to be the devastating one.

Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

I think Mary´s hair is fine, see nothing posh in it. Actually, she has the best hairdo of all three leads.

John and Mary are not dressed for a chistening, because they were obviously just strolling with the baby when Sherlock called them. Dog was probably hired by Sherlock, IMHO.

Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

On your last point, Liberty...this is what makes me think it could be flashback.
But no, I tend to feel we're going to get adventure/domesticity and then wham in the final episode of the series.
Would you really take on a big rescue dog, when you have a new baby?
Has Sherlock replaced John with a dog?
The latter will be much more reliable and loving!

Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

I was just thinking of the comments a while back about the dog not having time to grow from a puppy.  But I suspect it's not anybody's dog and is just for a particular story.  Unless they're going to let us get attached to the dog and then give us (and Sherlock?) a "Redbeard" experience.

Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

I agree, their clothing doens't match them being at a Christening. It could be that she just got a perm, but I felt the hair looked more like the kind of curls you get after using... I don't know the English word. Curling iron? A device you use to get big curls for a special occasion.

Anyway, it's just a detail,

Also, I'm starting to wonder if some of you guys secretly WANT this to be The Mary Show since you so easily interpret everything that way and spend so much time writing about it.

Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

Good heavens, no!
What a terrible thought. I did not have much time to post yesterday but here are some thoughts:

They only ever let us see things we are allowed to see, i.e. things that are not very important or connected with any rug pulls. Just think of TAB when they shot the living-room deduction in the street. In the end it did not really give away anything important. The modern scene in the cemetery was not meant to observed, I think, and we only got a glimpse of Martin and Amanda, no sighting of Benedict, Rupert, and Mark at all.

Therefore I think that the market scenes are part of the show - no shooting fake scenes a whole day, far too expensive - but not representative of what we are going to see. It could be in some character's mind, for example.

And let us not forget this: They knew full well that all of yesterday's shooting was going to be all over the media. The majority of viewers probably think that Mary is forgiven, that there will be a family and a baby and three friends solving crimes together. Which is exactly what they showed us yesterday. And it is the majority of viewers they have to surprise and shock, not a group of enthusiasts dissecting every single moment and line for years as we do.

In short, these scenes may be used in a trailer, as they did with TAB. But let us remember that there were soldiers and shots and explosions and damaged cars and underwater shots as well.

Re: Series 4 Setlock (potential spoilers)

I agree, Susi. Sherlock has never been a fluffy show, and I don't think this scene is that important. It's a tracking scene shown in different locations. Probably only seconds of each location will be in the show.

And now I know why Amanda fell over - she tried dragging the dog and he wouldn't budge.
