Ooohhh, I would just love that! What a twist!

The latter would certainly be a twist.

Mary going out a villain is my deepest wish for S4.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Really?
Mine is to get the boys back together in Baker Street.
But I somehow don't think Mary will go out a villain...rather negates the big reveal in S3.

Well John and Mary remain married and I expect that will be until death do them part...though that maybe in S4.

I agree, and I strongly suspect that death WILL part them in Season 4.  It may also be that John will come dangerously close to dying himself.  We'll have to wait and see, of course.

I think so, too.  I don't believe that Mary will turn out to be a villainess (although she is certainly capable of being dangerous, as Sherlock found out!).

I don't, either, for the same reason, and my goal is the same as besleybean's.

We've often discussed if anything of Mary's back story in HLV is to be taken at face value or not. I found this interesting meta.

I've been on the fence about Mary, giving her the benefit of the doubt, but this brilliant meta has opened my eyes. It makes so much narrative sense to me now. "Schrödinger's character" is a perfect title for Mary; I think Stephen and Mark are about to open the box in S4 and we will finally find out who Mary truly is.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

We may indeed find out  a lot more about Mary:
Did she and John meet purely by accident?
Is she working for or with anyone etc?
I don't know how much of her past assassin work I want to know about...
Unless it turns out she's been there in the background since day one...on either side!

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Very interesting meta. Several points there that I agree with as well. (And, yes, YES, I am SO happy to read someone else who reacted to the same as I did - the victim-blaming of John in HLV!).

And I will have to say, it did strike me as a bit off that Mary knew what affect Sherlock's death had on John ("Do you realise what you've done?"), and yet she's still able to do the same to the man she supposed to love. And not even apologize for it.

Only thing I hope is that if Sherlock was lying and has a bigger plan with Mary, then John knows and is in on it. Sherlock has kept John out of his plans before, and that didn't end well. I hope he has learned and won't do that again. Especially not something that involves John so closely as Mary. (After all, it's his wife and - presumably - his child, so he should have a say in this).

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

I would hope the only secret would be that she is working for Mycroft...
I am assuming she is n danger to John.

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

Oh, all this talk really gets me excited for the next season. And my wishes seem to be the same as besleybean: I want the boys back in Baker Street and I kind of really liked the idea in the special of Mary working for Mycroft.

I wonder how Mycroft can still employ her after she shot Sherlock. He is so protective of his baby brother...

Re: Mary – the subject of discussion

I think it depends very much on whether we know the whole truth about Mycroft. I think not.

Somehow I don't think that Mycroft would care about that.

I suppose it does depend how many of his agents she's wiped out!

Can you explain that? I don't understand, tbh. Do you mean he would forgive her shooting Sherlock but not killing his minions? Or do you imply he is afraid of her?
