Re: Chit-chat

yep,  I live abt 4 hours away  from that wonderful city.  my  fav part is fisherman's wharf.  And I like taking carriage rides  down there.  embarcadero street  or area is pretty  too--  and then there's the painted ladies and of course the golden gate--I've never walked across the golden gate,  but I did go a little ways onto it  on the sidewalk.
Ohhhh  that bridge is a marvel,  to me.   and plz don't get me started on ghiradelli square.....And the cable cars are still beutiful,  and I HAVE driven down the crookedest street in the world.

SF is a wonderful, romantic place to visit-- last time I was there (admittedly, it was 20 years ago!) it was a gritty place, a real urban place, but the veneer of history, romance, and downright beauty overlaid everything, and I had a helluva wonderful time. In addition to the spots sherlockskitty mentioned, don't miss Alcatraz Island if you go there-- the ferry ride over and back is worth the price of admission, and once you get over there and look back, you're treated to a billion dollar view of the SF cityscape. Don't miss having dinner in Chinatown as well-- goodness, talk about yum!  I've actually been to SF twice in my lifetime, and I live 3000 miles away! Well worth taking a trip.

Ah. Nothing beats New York City (Manhattan) at Xmas. The store windows are a fairyland. Rockefeller Center, skating and dining around the rink. The Rockettes show at Radio City Music Hall. The top of the Empire State Building at night. And the shopping! woohoo!  I imagine London's pretty special at Xmas, too. *dreams*

Re: Chit-chat

It's bloody freezing here in Canberra, has been snowing in the surrounding mountains. My brother and his family are off to Fiji for a week so he has given me all their perishables, including heaps of fruit and veges, and a dozen eggs. Hurray, no need to do grocery shopping this week.

I'm not SO glad about it, I have to be back in the office on monday. Second floor, flat roof. Phhhh.......
On the radio they keep telling: "Wonderful temperatures, everybody can go swimming...." Then I think: Does nobody else have to work??

Was a bit worried about my health until I found this nice tweet @CatFoodBreath today:

Unmotivated? Lethargic? Have mood swings? A sporadic appetite? Sleep a lot? You aren't depressed, you're a cat.

Explains everything.

Re: Chit-chat

Just had this tweeted to me by Jane (thank you, Jane) and thought I would share it with those of you who don't use twitter. The chance encounter sounds brilliant, not sure I can wrap my brain around the philosophy, though. Which is more a comment about me than those guys!

I don't know too much about Pussy Riot and their troubles, but-- I think I heard they got two years in prison? Good grief. But the images I saw on the TV news were disturbing-- three women in a small cage, looking like animals in a zoo. I know their society is not mine, their culture is not mine, etc, but I can't remember the last time I saw human beings locked up like animals like that. Disturbing doesn't even cover it. It made me actually sit there and thank the good Lord all over again for my country and the basic rights I'm afforded.

Re: Chit-chat

Three members of Pussy Riot have been sentenced to two years prison for singing an anti-Putin song in a church. Imagine that happening in your own country. Some may not approve of their methods of protest, but sending them to jail is ridiculous. People in democracies march in the streets to raise awareness of different causes, as is our right. We don't go to jail for having an opinion that differs from our governments.
