Re: The comprehensive Johnlock guide (Johnlockers only)

Oh, and why has an echo of that scene made a very striking and important appearance if STAB, if not to remind us (as if we'd forget!) of Johnlock?
Why?

Rewatched STAB yesterday, for some reason. Another 10 viewings, I think, and I'll be good to return to "normal", i.e. watch all of them instead of the same one over and over, and over again.

ukaunz, I would really appreciate if you could add a little description to the links you post. It's nicer to have an idea what to expect or whether I've seen it before. Thanks so much

Why?  Why is that conversation even in the episode?   It does not advance the plot and it doesn't add anything to the narrative arch of the series..........UNLESS, you read it as romantic flirting.

All I can say is WHY?

According to Moffat, he wrote the scene because the episode was too short and he needed a filler. And according to the story, the wonderfully gay Mark Gatiss read the scene and said something to the lines of: "You have no idea what you've just done".

Is Moffat really that clueless?  He could've written them having a conversation about ANYTHING!!  But he chose to make it about Sherlock's sexuality.

Sorry, will try to remember in future

Fixed this one (and updated the link, which had changed for some reason)

Sherlock (TV series) - Offensive: an implication of impropriety
IMPERTINENT AND OFFENSIVE
In The Abominable Bride, Sherlock and John find the notion of eloping impertinent and offensive? But why? They don’t really look offended by the insinuation of being a couple. Still it is impertinent because it is not proper.

Goes on to compare the conversation with one from The Snowmen (Doctor Who, also written by Moffat) between Madame Vastra and Jenny and another character, about their relationship.

I really wonder... Does Victorian Sherlock actually believe himself to be married to John? (think about that conversation in the vaults - "you're the one who moved out"!)

Re: The comprehensive Johnlock guide (Johnlockers only)

Well, think of the beginning. Watson and Holmes returning to 221B. You would never assume that Watson is not living there. They seem to enter their joint flat, full stop. Only when Mary, the dark presence in the room, is revealed, we realise that Watson does indeed have a wife.
What strikes me every time is this: Holmes uses the word "abandoned" here which is quite strong. And when the Carmichael case comes up several months later we learn that Watson has moved out several months ago. Since canonically the Watsons must have been married for years at that point, this can only mean that Watson indeed had left his married home for some time. Please correct me if I am wrong. And in the last scene which I interpret as Sherlock's ideal way of living, we see them sitting at the fireplace with no indication of Watson going to home his wife.

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Re: The comprehensive Johnlock guide (Johnlockers only)

I typed more on my first Johnlock ficlet last night... and I wasn't fully awake. I just read through what I wrote and corrected some errors... this isn't an error I think... and I think I might keep it... though it was meant to be a lot more innocent

"Oh to be inside John Watson’s head. There was a neat thought."

(in the ficlet Sherlock is going through hell with withdrawals and John tries to help him... right at this point John has fallen asleep)

Oh yes, aren't they sweet?  To those interested in more details regarding the boys' ejaculations, there should be several links to metas on this board

Ya know.  Some days I think I will just leave the debate thread and never return.  But then I remember that I am the President and Founder of the OSAJ and that I have a scared duty to aggressively Johnlock where ever I can.  Even if it means braving the bitter frustration of the debate thread.
