Hello all, I'm Nicole from Germany. I'm a biologist and utterly cumberbatched and sherlocked. If you want to contact me on Twitter, feel free to do so: Nicole@hakawatiya. My other hobbies include horse riding, writing, fangirling, reading and listening to various genres of music. x

Welcome, Nicole,
going by your preferences, you seem to fit in here quite nicely!
Have fun and make this forum your newest hobby.

Why, thanks very much for the nice welcome. :-) It's much appreciated. I'm curious to get to know the forum people here.

Welcome to the forum, Nicole, nice to have you with us. We seem to have the same hobbies apart from the horse riding which isn't really my strong point .

Pleasure to meet you. I love writing too!

:-)
Thank you.
I don't do it that well. But it's great fun. I love handling horses. I'm not so partial to the lessons, but the riding in itself is nice. :-)

Thanks for the welcome, Lupin. :-) I don't write fanfic, though. Scientific stuff for books and some random novel-ish scribbling I do for my own purposes. Let's see if I don't post at least a tad bit of it on Tumblr some time. ;-)

I don't write fanfic either, just novels, poetry, and some nonfiction stuff. I don't really post it though.

Well... if you've got a publisher... I still don't. Am just starting out. ;-)

I mean obviously there was a publisher for the scientific stuff. It's just the other "projects" I am still contemplating.

Even without a publisher, it's not the best idea to make work you hope to publish public domain. I have beta readers, of course, and lots of projects to work on at any one time.
Offline
You have a point there, of course. I'm simply unsure as yet of how to go about all this.
Offline
Well, it's great if you can find a group of writers in your genre you can mutually critique as well as some readers. If you want to post stuff online publicly, I'd post select chapters or excerpts. That's just how I go about it.

There's a German-speaking forum for authors in which you can discuss a variety of questions: www.montsegur.de. I'm a member myself, though not very active, and I'm not sure about the conditions of joining but you could ask.

Well, thanks for the advice. I'll probably do that. In fact, I once was a member of a forum hosted by orbitbooks. And we did exchange some stuff.

Wow, how nice. Thanks so much! Great hint.
I'm already loving it here.
Thanks x

I also write in English, BTW. Not to show off, but some things come more easily and more to the point. It also helps to translate from German into English. Sometimes that makes my German more concise and to the point. Strange... I also love the multiplicity of nuances and meaning in English.

Willkommen Nicole. I hope you have loads of fun here. I love horses too, especially the groundwork and my daughter rides and competes at showjumping.

I'm not surprised. A lot of Germans have a better command of the English language than we English-speakers do. That's great if you've found a forum. I tend to develop writing friends over time and keep critiquing relationships up that way.

Welcome, Nicole. You seem to have found friends here, already.
