Re: Chit-chat

Well, we are pretty far south so usually we don't get any amount of snow until the absolute end of Nov. maybe mid-Dec. and we have had more green Xmas days than not in the last couple of decades, so the weather is usually pretty mild here in southwestern Ontario.

Even still, Dan and I live right on shores of Lake Huron (only a two minute walk to the beach) so we do get a fair bit of lake effect snow and a lot of colder winds in the winter but our area on the whole is known for its milder weather (commonly referred to as "The Banana Belt of Ontario" - but really that is a joke of the worst order!).

We already had our dusting of snow in Oct. but this time it was almost "shoveling time" there was so much of it.  Some of it has melted away but more is expected today and tomorrow.

Winter has a lot going for it  but I do wish it won't start early and end late.  About February I really get tired of it and yet it still insists on hanging around for at least another month... month and a half!

Re: Chit-chat

I'm from the GTA, so I guess we've had it similar there, too, in recent years, but right now I'm on campus in Quebec and it's surprisingly not snowy and not very cold, unlike last year this time.  I think back home it's about the same, though.

I'm not complaining, I'm very neutral about this since I tend to just take weather as it comes.  The time has passed quickly so it doesn't really feel like it's close to wintertime yet despite what the calendar says.  But once it comes I will enjoy it.

Re: Chit-chat

Well, we had something interesting happen to us tonight.  We went on a road trip to see our local hockey team in action in a little town called St. Marys and when we got there the team manager called us over and told Dan that there was a film crew from Vancouver working for ABC/Disney Channel working on a segment of a reality show about some American cheerleaders - one of whom was a girlfriend of one of our players!  So the crew was sent out to film this girl visiting her boyfriend in action at one of his hockey games.  I think the name of the show was something like "They're Going to the World's" (but don't quote me on this because I don't watch reality TV).

After the game was all over and Dan went down to do his interviews with the coach and players (he is the media liason for the team - and team historian) and they were doing some more filming.  They got some of the other players involved in the segment too.  Dan said it was all very scripted - every line was pre-written for both the girlfriend and the player.

But all the boys were very excited - we won the game, so everyone was in good spirits!  Even though all this filming held up the team bus for a very long time.

Any way it was something really different.  Has anyone ever heard of this show?  I think Dan said it would be on the ABC Sparks channel and on the Disney Channel???  They were also going by the title "Cheer, Cheer" if that helps.

Re: Chit-chat

Hmm..I've never heard of that, but regardless it sounds like an unexpected, fun, unusual experience.

It doesn't surprised me that the lines were scripted.  The level of "reality" in most reality shows is dubious.

Even on game shows, audience reactions can be pre-recorded.  My mum and I were audience members for part of an episode of "Canada's Smartest Person" and while they still record when stuff is actually happening, for the first part of our taping they just recorded us, the audience, reacting to nothing.  It was like a big group improv session.  Now whenever I see a live TV audience, I wonder whether what I'm seeing is pre-recorded.
Either way, still fun, and certainly not something you get to do every day.

Look at this otter - really as cute as Benedict.

That´s why it is covering its cute face, maybe? It doesn´t want to be photographed for another otter joke.

Re: Chit-chat

Once upon a time, I saw a painting "Red Fuji" from Katsushika Hokusai:

I had thought that the red colour of the mountain was just the artist´s hyperbole. But now I saw this stunning photo and I noted with surprise, that Fuji-san is actually red:

Check the blogger´s site. It´s beautiful:

Wow, those are impressive pictures!
Beautiful mountainside! And have you noticed the "U.S.S. Enterprise" shaped cloud above?

Yes. And the second cloud is a typical UFO.
