I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Re: Hamlet at the Barbican - contains spoilers about the production

I am so exited to see it again in the cinema!!

Those gifs with those reviews are just beautiful. So beautiful!

And I'm still so amazed by what I experienced in August. It really did feel like I got to witness a great man doing something so huge.
I still wonder if it was all just a dream...

I'm out of the loop. So BC's Hamlet was recorded and being shown as a movie in Germany?  Does anyone know if we're going to get a chance to see this thing in the US?  I don't know why I ask, because even if we do, it won't be anywhere but New York, LA and not much of anywhere else. But a girl can dream.

It was a live transmission.

It was a live (or in my case "live delayed') broadcast but you should really check your local (or regional - depending on how far you are willing to travel) theatres for encore presentations.  I live in Sarnia Ontario (not a big city at all) and it played on October 15th and will be playing again in an encore presentation on Nov. 5th in my city.  There is even a smaller city (of only about 40,000) about an hour away from where we live that will be doing an encore viewing of Hamlet in Nov, as well.

Check the National Theatre Live site - they list all the theatres participating in the event cinema shows.

In other news...  here is Part 5 of Ben talking about acting in Hamlet -

Re: Hamlet at the Barbican - contains spoilers about the production

I have a ticket for the evening of the 31st october, the last night, that I want to sell. Does anyone want it?  its' in the stalls.

Unfortunately I'll be having my tooth extracted 2 days before and honestly I want to stay home that weekend, so I'm not going to use the ticket. If anyone is interested let me know - hope I'm not breaking any forum rules!

I don't know the rules for this, either.
But let me know if you want me to ask on Twitter...unless you've done this yourself!

And here are the remaining segments of BC talking about Hamlet...

Part 6

and the last Part 7 -
https://vimeo.com/143263257

Truly extraordinary record of the process of bring Hamlet to life by an actor who is a master of inhabiting a character.  I am so very glad he was able to do this interview.  It brings real insight to one of the most complex characters ever written in any medium.

Beautiful - just beautiful!

Btw, how time flies. Benedict's time as Hamlet is coming to an end. Will he be glad, will he miss it?
