A well-known German film magazine announced that the special will air in Germany in early January. I suppose the UK might be even a bit earlier. In the past we got the episodes about five or six months after the UK.

Do you think it might be possible that they are planning to broadcast it on the same time (or better: day,since there are things like time zones 
) ? Someone mentioned it on tumblr some time ago, I didn't really give it a second thought back then

I would be happy with a synchronised date! Or even a weeks wait as I suppose it was for S3. If they will even be showing it here... The lady at the Danish channel made no promises, though she knew 'certain' (cough cough Whovian and Sherlockian apparently) coworkers would certainly try...
Or I guess the month delay like DW has had...
I just want to see it!!

I reckon the dvd usually comes out about a fortnight after the show airs.
So I'm plumping for Sun 27 Dec...

Well the series 3 DVD came out on 20.January and the last episode of that series was broadcast on 12.January.

On the Facebook page of the Danish channel who normally shows Sherlock and other BBC shows someone asked "are you going to air the Sherlock Christmas special on December 25th".
I have no idea where he had that date from... and somehow I can't help but finding it a bit unlikely?

lol Or if you have the option you could PVR it and watch it later.
Everyone we usually do Christmas with watches Sherlock (my parents, aunt, and me), the only problem for me would be if it was during our dinner and we all wanted to watch it. My grandmother, who will be our newest addition to Christmas dinner, would not be interested. If had dinner early though and she wanted to go to bed...although I do have the option to PVR it and watch it later so that's probably what would end up happening.

I have high hopes that here in Aus we'll get it within 24 hours of it being shown in the UK, as that is what they're doing with the new DW episodes (we can watch on iview on Saturday or wait until Sunday night and watch on tv). The only thing I'm worried about is that I'm going to be in NZ over the Christmas period, and I don't think NZ get shows as quickly as we do in Aus.
