Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Oh, yeah, now I remember, that was the one with the supposedly "minor" character death that I just couldn't believe until several chapters into the fiction...

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Yes, I think some authors count anyone who is not Sherlock or John as a "minor character"!

I didn't include the link because it was posted earlier in the thread (and I assumed also in the master list), but here it is just for you http://archiveofourown.org/works/1804192

Just don't read it at work.  I read it on my lunch break and I'll be useless for the rest of the afternoon!

Has anyone mentioned At night in the floating world by PoppyAlexander yet? (I bet you have!)

It's my current obsession....

Do you have a link? I think I know the writer. Not so sure about that fic though.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

oh gosh. It's beautiful. Here's the link: http://archiveofourown.org/works/4083121

It's a Geishalock verse, really original, with a beautiful world-building - plus BAMF Assassin John, and beautiful Sherlock (he dresses up, but he is still Sherlock, so not transgender)
Warning though, it has domestic violence, and a very bad, very scary Moriarty...

I really love how Poppy writes. The way she describes everything - you feel like you're right there...

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

It really looks original and well-written... still, I´m not even over third paragraph yet and this awful eastern European stereotype jumps right at me.

No matter if fantasy or distopia, some stereotypes cannot be erased so easily from the mind of a Westerner, huh? Of course a person from East Europe must be some shady loser. Such things on the other hand never happen to a high-born Anglosaxon type....

Does she has more digs like that in this story or was this an isolated occurence?

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Honestly, one can find stereotypes in anything (the figure of a Geisha can be a stereotype in itself), but in the case of this fic it doesn't really have the same impact, at least for me, because it's a completely different world where countries as we know them don't really exist.

But to answer your question - no, unless I didn't notice, I don't think that's a recurring thing.

I'm not going to force you to read or anything but in my modest opinion letting small details stop you from reading this story is a big shame.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Oh, no, no, I certainly would read it. It seems very good from the look of it. The stereotype was annoying, but not to the extent to put me off reading.

Haven't heard of this stereotype ever in all my life ...

Eventually everyone will support Johnlock.   Independent OSAJ Affiliate
