I could imagine the BBC having two highlights on Christmas. Doctor Who on Christmas day, Sherlock on Boxing day.

lol Well, I don't know how likely that is, but it's a thought I suppose. I have my doubts, but I suppose we have no proof one way or the other. Whatever happens, I hope that if there is a discrepency between the UK air date and the US (in Canada we would have to see it on the name network as the Americans, I know BBC Canada has aired it before, but I think it was after it was initally aired, but I can't remember for sure because it was before I actually watched the show, I just saw it on the TV guide), because I would like to be able to watch it while I'm off school with my family if it's going to be in December or January before I go back.

I'm pretty sure that the reason why the DW Christmas Special already has an air date is because they will make a huge fuss about announcing the air date for the Sherlock Special - just like they did with the announcement of the air date for S3. Like someone in that link already mentioned, Doctor Who Christmas Specials are a very common thing now, we get one almost every year. Apart from that, there also are far more DW episodes on a far more regular basis than there are new Sherlock episodes, so... announcing the DW air date isn't really such a special occasion. But the air date for the Sherlock Special...

It's interesting that even the press calls it a Christmas Special and if I remember correctly Benedict also called it a Christmas special when he was on Kimmel last year. But Mark Gatiss actually said it isn't.
