Just me, but I don't care about variety in my fic relationships. I only read johnlock. It's what I like.
Doesn't matter if it's a "friends to lovers" or an "established relationship" as long as Sherlock and John are together on the last page.
And as long as it's written well I can take any level of explicitness. I like cute and fluffy but I also like hot and hard and everything in between.

Yeah, I'm a bit single-minded when it comes to Sherlock fanfic as well. It can be pure romance, pure fluff. case-based, slow build, pure PWP, whump, angsty, dynamic AU, humour, short, long, explicit or mild - but if it's not Johnlock, I'm not interested.

I am with you here. The only thing I don't like is when the plot is finished and there are seven more chapters left so you know what the boys will do exessively. Not that I mind them doing that, but I avoid pwp fics and I hate it when a good plot is finished by seven pwp chapters.

That's a really good point. Also don't like those kind of endings. That always seems like: I HAVE to write some more chapters but I don't know what about.

Oh, it seems she then exactly *knows* what to write about

Yeah, but if you start good... with a well designed plot and end with several chapters describing Sherlock and John jumping into each other beds... that's poor writing for me.
Pwp should be something separate.

Come on, she made such an effort to finally write about what she really wanted, so let her

Tastes differ. Right, I don't have to read it.

Thank god I"ve never read such a "lengthened" story so far......
And I agree with you: Johnlock it is. If It isn't, I'm not interested.
So if you please would move over and let me and my Kindle lie next to you girls...?

Come on, Mattlocked, admit it: you're only reading case fics. Dry and serious case fics.

Who doesn't around here? Ask tonnaree.

Where are those "lengthened stories" to be found, anyway? I mean, even the term ... !

Would you like a Jammie Dodger sweetie?

Is FanFiction.net down or is it just for me?

It's down for me, too.

I'd just like to say that (and this is only my opinion) that we should be careful in the way that we discuss authors-- it's too easy to forget that they are also fans, just like us-- and may actually be on the forum and read what we say about them. One author was talked about here, on this thread-- and folks said some rather hurtful things about her writing. She read it, folks. Her feelings were terribly hurt, and now, she's considering not writing any more.
And that would be a tremdous loss to the fandom.
We're not in a vacumn-- we should assume that the authors we discuss are reading what we say about them.
And, maybe we should remember that they write all those stories for free.

We have threads specificaly for recomendations, but I just want to talk about fan fic in general.
What do we love? What do we hate? What totally weirds us out?
What I would never do is bash specific stories or authors by name. It is an act of bravery to create anything and I have only respect for someone who tries.
This is from my original post when I started this conversation. If we've gotten away from that at some point I am deeply sorry for not catching it. While we can discuss likes and dislikes I agree that we should not mention authors or fics by name.

Or , at least, if we're going to mention names-- we can try to be kind.

I would prefer to leave out names altogether. This is really not suppose to be a critical discusion of anyone's work. Just a conversation about fic in general.
