The Prince of Tides - Pat Conroy
The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint-Exupery
Speaker for the Dead - Orson Scott Card (This is the sequel to Ender's Game and I guess you should read that one first. But they are both wonderful. The book is much deeper than the movie)
The Road Less Traveled - M. Scott Peck (non-fiction)
Imajica - Clive Barker
The Sparrow - Mary Doria Russell
I would reccomend any and all of these to anyone interested in something that will stir your heart and mind.

Thanks to the quirkinesss of Irving's writing I actually liked Robin Williams' performance in The World According to Garp.
But his books are usually something very special. My hubby has read even more Irving books than I have. But Owen Meany is still the most favourite of us both.

I've never read an Irving book that I didn't like, but Owen is my favorite also. With Garp a close second. I'm also very fond of Hotel New Hampshire, but I didn't like that movie at all.

Cider House Rules ranks almost right up there with Meany for me (and I really loved the movie - Michael Caine rules!!!).
I enjoyed Garp and Hotel NH as well. Dan really liked A Widow for One Year and A Son of the Circus as well.
I never saw Hotel NH the movie and only part of Simon Birch (yuck! I said this before - still waiting for a decent adaptation of Meany... Birch doesn't count).
