This year it's in Shanghai:
Benedict Cumberbatch to host Laureus World Sports Awards
(I thought he was going to stay home and nest for a while? ;) )

Although he looked really nervous when he did the last one perhaps the second time will be easier!
Thanks for posting this item REReader!

Tight shedule, that. First this event, then the Sherlocked Event... the man is a workaholic, indeed.

Ha, awesome! (although amusedly seconding the working/resting joke and how he looked nervous, yet awesomely lighthearted with banter last year… there's probably reason they wanted him again!)
Alright, so I'm not sure if this was posted last year in one of the numerous pages of the Laureus thread, but only remember seeing clips of him hosting, and some awesome pics, and not promos. Thanks to the MG car ad Lola posted, I noticed some other short clips the same person uploaded, and the "There's no I in Team" title caught my eye. Well, turns out, it's a playful promo from last year's Laureus with Ben! In the name of psyching up for this year's with our favorite humorous, expressive quirkiness from him, I think you'll love this if you hadn't seen it before:

Oh Russell, that was hilarious! Thanks so much for posting it. I have seen a lot of videos with Ben in them but not this one.
I really laughed when he made a comment about giving 110% not making any sense! My hubby has said this for 40 years and it was so funny hearing those words come out of BC's mouth.
Really fun bit. Thanks again!

I know!! I was grinning like an idiot the whole time, especially with his 'nervous stammering' and the cape!

I know Russell! BC hit all the right notes in this one - just watched it again and laughed so hard i nearly passed my yogurt through my nose!
"I'm going come out punching with both fists!"
"I'm going come out of wings and go down the centre!"
"I'm going to execute... no, not execute... "
I'm, I'm... there's no I in team!. I'm a team player... "
Oh God I'm going to be sick!!"
Just brilliant!

I just love that sense of humour

Cute and funny video! Love that they're making fun of all the sport cliches!

I know! This really is one of my favorite promos (along with the Dunbar ad, and Sesame Street)
…Wonder if there's any significance to picking the number 8 though.

That was my thought too...
I suppose it's the Sherlockian in us huh, always looking out and observing clues...

*shrug* Maybe it was his number when he played sports at school. Would be a cool tie-in, if they had asked him that.

There's an interview clip up at BBC Sport of Benedict talking about meeting Eric Cantona (? An actor and former "footballer," if my googling is right) and John McEnroe at last year's Laureus Awards, where he's all awe-struck at meeting his sports heroes.

He's so human isn't he? A fanboy at heart.
Offline
Yes, he is... which, considering all the other complex aspects of his personality, makes him even more fascinating!

I have to agree with you!
He's still managing to keep his feet firmly on the ground despite all the success and weid stuff going on around him.
It's highly admirable.

Interesting (and sexy), thank you for the post.

I read earlier today that the Laureus Sport Awards will be in Berlin this year (18.April) but of course Ben won't be hosting this year. First of all because of the Sherlock filming und secondly because of Murphys Law and the fact that I live here. (would be a big surprise if he actually is hosting again)
