Oh nice one! Even more confused now

Me too...
Funnily enough I never considered the special to cover more years...
Could also be before and after the makeup though??

Could be, but I don't think so. The first (young) pic is taken on set. Why would Martin be on set (in the street) in costume without the last touches of the make-up? With the bowler hat if his hair wasn't done?

Hmmmm, true....

Oh, absolutely. He stated his opinion, and I believe him. We should take it to heart, but there's no reason to become hysterical and create drama over it.
If you go back to the interview, what he was saying he minded wasn't the fans being there so much as the fans applauding (when actors come on set, when a shot is over, etc., etc.), and thus breaking up the actors' concentration. It would have been nice if that had been focused on because it's not necessarily something non-actors would think of and that setlock fans could easily do, but of course that wouldn't be click-bait.

Yes, as I read it, the thing that he "didn't love" was acting in public on Sherlock, because of those things from the audience.

What do you like about the victorian setting? I'm trying very hard to warm up to the concept, but I find it difficult, this sort of thing. Help me?

I think it is rather funny that they took a well-known story out of it's Voctorian context, make a big fuss about the show taking place in the present and then they go and (seem to) shoot a large part of an episode in (presumably) some kind of dream that takes the story back into Victorian times.
Plus, it looks great. So much details, like the Victorian 221B outside or Victorian Mike Stamford, ...
I don't know, I just love it.

I sort of don't like it? I would much prefer to have a Special set in the regular times as the rest of the show, being coherent. And I still cling on to the hope that all the Victorian thing is just some dream/hallicunation-thing and that the rest of the episode is set in modern times.
But if it isn't, I'd rather resign myself to that fact so that I can enjoy the episode when it comes.

I would find it interesting to see "our" John and Sherlock relocated to just about any era, but I have always been fascinated by Victorian settings. Not sure why. Also, since the Victorian era is the traditional setting of the Holmes stories and the original purpose of the Moftiss was to moderize it, I think it will be interesting to see their creations flipped in this way.
Did that make sense? It's like having the story double back on itself.
Whiskey, is there something specific about the Victorian setting that you don't like or is it just a general disinterest?

I like Victorian, and victorian Sherlock. But there is already so much Victorian Sherlock out there, and not sooo much modern Sherlock. Then why go back to something already used so many times, instead having some more of the new?

Yes, but I find it weird, rather than funny...

90% agreement, because I don't know, how to include a dream/hallucination without making it ridiculous?
I'm just worried. I don't want another Dr. Who... I want Sherlock :-(
Aren't you worried at all?
I don't know, since the first clue that Moriarty maybe isn't dead, I don't have that much trust anymore.
I don't mean to be negative, I just realised I am not looking forward that much, and that is deeply unsettling I can assure you ;-)
What is true though: it looks great. But looks isn't everything. I think it might be an awesome special, just how "modern Sherlock" will it feel?

I don't have doubts, to be honest.

I'm not the slightest bit worried, or concerned, or even confused. Whatever they do with this look/situation/setting/story will be amazing and creative. I have complete trust. This is their 'baby' and they know how to handle it.
Well, I guess I do have one worry/concern: that this little special is going to leave us with one headache of a cliff hanger that will drive us crazy until S4.

I am also not in love with this show being now in victorian times, as i loved especially the modern vibe of it. We get also so seldom new episodes that for me is a waste of time to do seomthing apart of the "normal time" of the series. But i believe in the creativity of the shows writers and directors, so i will be still veryvery curious about it.
Looking the pictures it seems to me that they cover a large period of time (but only a costume ?), as we see John with Mike and John has no mustache and in pictures with Benedict, he has one. Such a mustache needs a respectable time to grow... Iff they cover all 9 episodes as a dream in victorian times? ( i am so no prepared to see a new Reichenbach fall.....)

The other day I was watching some older interviews with Martin again and I watched the one where he firsts mentions that Steven and Mark have had an idea for a special. The way Martin talks about it, his tone of voice, he sounds so excited. He seemed honestly blown away by the idea, what ever it was. This only confimed my own excitement.
Remember, no matter how much setlock we see we don't KNOW anything for sure. I'm a natural optimist anyway so I will continue to trust.

I have complete faith and trust that they will make this a fantastic episode

No, I'm not worried. Not in the slightest. What I've seen from the three seasons with Moftiss leaves me with total faith in their writing and their ability to create something awesome. I have faith in what they do.
