I've seen that one Susi but could never decide if I wanted to read it. Will give it a shot on your reccomendation.

Ok, I've done a search and haven't been able to find this fic recommended, so I will give it a go. Apologies if it's already here and I haven't seen it!
Collared by VelvetMace.
This is a very explicit and dark fic that can be disturbing. It deals with moral white, grey and black areas - mostly grey. It's set in an AU slavery British Empire setting. And, yes, I know that sounds ridicoulous. I've scrolled past this fic several time because I always deemed slavery settings as the most patethic attempt at creating a wank fic.
Oh, how I was wrong. This 13-chapter long gem is nothing short of magnificent. It won't be for everyone, but this is so far from a cheap smut fic that you can get.
Author's description:
In a world where the British Empire is still strong and slavery is her economic backbone, John has become a terrorist for the abolitionist movement. He is caught by Mycroft, enslaved, and given to Sherlock for training. The goal: To test a new kind of slave collar with the power to break even the strongest willed fighter. One that will make even John learn to love being a slave.
A whole bunch of tags and warnings, but this is high quality writing.

I just gotta ask - have you guys read the gem that is The Paradox Series?
Offline
Do not get me started on wordstrings.
I love her fics so much but I have been waiting since June for the next chapter of "All the best and brightest creatures". So maybe I shall read the Paradox series again.
And just in case you like Canon slash stories - as Katie Forsythe she has created a whole Canon universe right here which is brilliant:

I got one fic left of the series and I'm absolutely amazed. Wow, what a series! I sort of don't want to start reading the last one, because I don't want it to end.
Offline
Don't worry. Like Susi pointed out, there is soooo much more to read from wordstring / Kathy Forsythe ...

I've finished the Paradox-series, and it was so awesome that I actually felt a bit light-headed for a while there. Wowsers.
So now I'm almost halfway in "All the best and brightest creatures" and I blame Susi for that.

Brilliant, isn't it? I really hope that she will finish it. It's a wip fot quite some time now, but she promised to come back to it. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

It is awesomely brilliant. I do have to say I prefer Paradox, but this is also top notch.

You should also take a look at the Kathy Forsythe page Susi has posted. It's breath-takingly brilliant.

To be honest, I don't have any interest in ACD fanfic, but Im sure it's of equally great quality.

Ok. You convinced me.
Downloaded The Paragox series.
Will give it a try.

I envy you for not having read it yet.

I've now read the last published chapter of "All the best and brightest creatures" and since it hasn't been updated in over half a year I will now promptly reread Paradox to put myself back in my happy place.
There is a reason why I usually only read fics that are completed.

I contacted wordstrings not long ago and she promised she would continue. I really, really hope she does. And I just started reading the Paradox series again.

Not sure how to say this without spoiling anything, but... even though "All the best" is of course magnificently crafted and written, I like Paradox much better. "All the best" is just... too intense. Either everything is absolutely horrible, or everything is so intense that it is horrible anyway. In Paradox there is still the intensity, but there is laughter, fun, suspense, hilarity, adorablility (is that a word?) and a fantastic relationship. All the best is just... continous dread and very little else.
I do hope she will continue. I've put the fic on subscribe and will continue reading it if she updates it, but Paradox is still in a whole league of it's own in my view.

The sequel of "Crazy for Love" is finished. I love it very much, as brilliant as the first one and full of suspense. Highly recommended.

The same author has started some kind of second version of the sequel.

Alternate version of the events unfolding in part 2 of The James Holmes Chronicles.
I am not sure what to make of it, but I'll read on to see where it goes. This time, it is really Moriarty who contacs James, and the fic is written from his point of view.

Can I also just mention that wordstring managed to put Karma Police, my one and only favourite song of all time, into her Paradox series? If I didn't love the series by then (which I did), I sure as hec do now!

Sometimes I still discover Post-Reichenbach fics I did not know. This is a very good one with an interesting and likable Mary (yes, it is possible). Written before series 3.

Summary:
Tell me about the dream where we pull the bodies out of the lake
and dress them in warm clothes again.
How it was late, and no one could sleep, the horses running
until they forget that they are horses.
It’s not like a tree where the roots have to end somewhere,
it’s more like a song on a policeman’s radio,
how we rolled up the carpet so we could dance, and the days
were bright red, and every time we kissed there was another apple
to slice into pieces.
Look at the light through the windowpane. That means it’s noon, that means
we’re inconsolable.
Tell me how all this, and love too, will ruin us.
These, our bodies, possessed by light.
Tell me we’ll never get used to it.
(Richard Siken, Scheherezade)
John Watson keeps on meeting people he can't manage to keep. Sherlock Holmes seems to be no exception to this rule.blue
