Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

For me it is quite simple:

I do not believe there is any chance Johnlock will happen in the series.

I will never be more happy than being proven wrong if that is the case.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Copy and paste:

- We were told the show wasn’t going to go into Mycroft and Sherlock’s childhood
~ Lo and behold in S3 not only do we meet their parents, we get a glimpse as to what Sherlock was like as a child, as well as his childhood pet

- We were told the writers weren’t going to touch on the drugs bit any more than the tiny bit they did in A Scandal in Belgravia
~ Come His Last Vow, we see Sherlock in a drug den, and learn from Molly that he wasn’t clean (which was obvious given the drug den but w/e)

- We were told Mary wasn’t going to come inbetween John and Sherlock or be an adversary in any way
~ She became snippy at John over Sherlock, then ended up shooting and (albeit temporarily) killing Sherlock in His Last Vow

- We were told that Moriarty was definitely dead, and the writers even joked about it at Comic-Con 2013
~ “DID YOU MISS ME?!”

- We were told throughout 2013 that there was no Christmas special, that the whole thing was a rumor.
~ At the start of December 2013, we found out there was a special S3 prequel that aired for us - Many Happy Returns

- Something not linked to Sherlock but equally as important - in 2013 Moffat himself deliberately caused a fake controversy surrounding the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special, saying that none of the classic doctors were going to be remembered in any way, shape, or form, which wasn’t the case. Moffat is one of the creators and writers of Sherlock, so where does that leave us?

- ETA - Moffat and Gatiss both have said contradictory things about the show (for example, about the nature of Sherlock’s interest with Irene) and Moffat also had everyone believing that he actually would reveal the Doctor’s actual name in The Name of the Doctor, which also turned out to be false.

(if anyone has any other examples, please feel free to add them)

These are just a few examples. So why everyone is freaking out over Gatiss saying “that’s not what we’re doing” is beyond me. They tell us they lie, and they do lie. Like they’ve said, you wouldn’t want to know about the surprise, so they’re not going to tell you. Not that it’s a surprise, but more of a later reveal of, “these characters just happen to not be heterosexual” thing.

So whether you want to believe in the writers/creators who have lied to us and will continue to do so in order to keep plot points and arcs and storylines secret/a surprise against the narrative and what you see and hear with your own eyes and ears is up to you.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Mark is quite clear in  his use of the Enflsih language here and he is a man of integrity.
He was incerdibly brave to speak up against a background of shrieking Johnlockers.
Which only goes to show how important it was he was heard.
I for one have the decency to listen to him and take him at his word.
This is a show and a team we are supposed to love.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Seriously though: I really love it when Mark is being so serious and honest. (And I really mean it.)

He was serious and honest when he mentioned the India human rights situation. Well done!

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Yes. Does anybody seriously think Mark is lying in that video?  I know they have to mislead over plot points, etc., but this seems completely genuine to me.  They've said that the relationship is central, and I don't think they'd play around with it like that.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

I don't think he is lying, he seems very sincere.

Having that said, Moffat also sounded very sincere when talking about Moriarty really being dead.

I still don't think he is lying. But I am wondering if they are aware of the innuendo they put in. (And I'm not talking about the gay-jokes).

According to the last paragraph of this article, they want to explain how Moriarty faked his death:

http://www.thenewsreports.com/mark-gatiss-wonders-sherlock-holmes-doesnt-typical-bollywood-adaptation/12572/devrupa-rakshit

Which means this show would un-make another death of a character. How original!

What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Do you realise that unlike Sherlock, Moriarty had absolutely no motive to fake his death?
If they unmake his death, they would turn TRF into a farce.

The most exciting thing about this would be that it would prove once again that you can't ever believe a single word Mofftiss are saying.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Oh come on.
They are asked directly soon afetr HLV aired, if Moriarty's death was fake and they are expected to be honest?
I think Mark speaking from the heart here against Johnlock is different...for a start, he's always spoken against it.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Wow, that escalated quickly, trying to keep up somehow. Just my two cents:

I was struck once again by how selective Mark's answers were. Gay joke and all that, but not a word about empty chairs, about the dancefloor, about coming back to life for John, about the tarmac scene.
He mentions Sherlock saying he has neither boyfriend nor girlfriend, about suppressing his feelings, about being focussed on his brain only. Which is basically series 1 stuff.
It is as if series 3 never happened. And this is quite suspicious in itself.

And honestly - much of series 3 does not make sense without Johnlock. Take that away from TSoT and you are left with a not very satisfying murder attempt and a lot of people drinking champagne. And do not get me started on HLV.

Well S3 was my fave series and I see what the writers say they are trying to show..with no Johnlock in sight.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Regarding Mark Gatiss and his view on The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (nothing about gay jokes in here). This is not about "Sherlock" so I tend to believe him here more than when he talks about the show:
