Can I just say I love that word 'kerblooey'.

Do not worry, Raven. Still there.
In the "episodes I can't re-watch" thread there is a discussion about why Moran was dealt with so shortly in TEH and if the character is going to be presented in another form again.
There is of course the theory that the writers split up the original character and used just the name for the character in TEH and some of the other characteristics on Mary. This would coincide with the fact that she is an excellent shot and that she meets Sherlock in an "empty house". The question if if there is also a connection to Moriarty or if they either took a pass on that or are going to use it on another character.

Well, I liked the character and I'm happy to see a more positive view of her, if there's evidence for it. It's just that some things are difficult to ignore.
If I try to put a positive slant on it ... Sherlock comes back from the dead trying to save John (again). He doesn't try to get John away from Mary. Instead, he goes to great lengths to make Mary tell John the truth and to keep them together. There's just a chance that he wants them to stay together because Mary is protecting John in some way - he doesn't think John is danger from Mary, but from someone/something else. I'm not convinced of that at the moment, but maybe somebody can convince me - how is Mary protecting John? Now see-- I thought this was an interesting take; though I think it speaks more for Sherlock than it does for Mary. She was the recipient of Sherlock's good will-- so, it's really more like taking Sherlock's word for it that she's a trustworthy person-- but is Sherlock a reliable narrator? Or an unreliable one?
As far as danger to John, "guardian"-- I'm curious to know what they're alluding to, there.
It's quite an elaborate setup leading to the confrontation at Leinster Gardens, and something Sherlock has to manage when he's in a lot of pain and should be in hospital. So it's vitally important to him that John gets that information in that way urgently. That's interesting, because you'd think that if John was at risk from Mary, he might be safer not knowing? Knowing her secret (and having the memory stick) would make him a risk to her, if she really was that dangerous? And Sherlock does think she's dangerous because he projects her face on the building in case she kills one or both of them.
He comes back from the dead to save John (I think), but maybe the urgency of arranging that confrontation is for himself. Mary has threatened him, and it would be pretty easy for a nurse/assassin to bump off somebody in hospital if she felt she needed to. Sherlock says that he didn't think Mary meant to kill him, but I'm not so sure - and he could be saying that to "prove" he is on her side.
I don't know about "guardian". It's too early for her to be protecting the baby when Sherlock deduces that. Is she protecting John? I was wondering about CAM's message to her at the wedding. It could be a veiled threat towards her family, couldn't it? (Which is how Moriarty worked). Is she protecting her family?
And yes, Sherlock is a completely unreliable narrator! I'm a fan of the exceptionally clever version of Sherlock (I did read the M-theory link in the end, thought it was very good, but amongst other things, I can't accept Sherlock being easily duped throughout. Not the Sherlock I want to see), and I like to believe there is a reason behind everything he does, and it isn't necessarily the one he wants people to think it is. Whatever his reason, he seems to think it's safer for John to stay with Mary - I really don't think this is just about liking Mary and thinking they make a nice couple. He must know something we don't.

Could I just mention how really sad this frenzy going on here is! I don't have much of a comparison as this is the only forum I've joined so far but I always found this a good mannered place. I would love mire of civilized discussions about Mary and think it's sad that the fans who like her should feel they have to stay away or are only allowed to state their opinion in pms. Of course everybody can send pms to whom they like but this does not support good discussions.

Believe me, I never intended that people should feel like that and I did not know they did. Everyone is free to discuss their opinions. But this means you have to accept that people do not share your own way of thinking.
And IMO the discussion about Mary has been focussed on the character and not dominatend by personal insults to members. And it should remain like that.

In any group of people, even the best people, there are going to be the occasional dust up. Just human nature. In the best of groups things will calm down and you carry on. And as a 20 year veteran of discussion forums let me tell you, this one is one of the best. Compared to some of the flame wars that go on out there in the big wide web this was but a scuffle.
Now, what were we talking about......................Sherlock naked.......................ooops, wrong thread. *giggle*

^ This.
And actually nobody is "only allowed to state their opinion in pms".
IMO, if you join or even open a discussion you have to handle that people have different opinions.
If you can't you shouldn't join.

But then...we actually agree, mattlocked.

Let's see, topic..........topic.
One thing that I still think about is the fact that Moftiss didn't tell AA her whole story arc before shooting. I think it would've been more interesting for AA to act out Eps 1 and 2 if she knew where her character was going in Ep. 3.

Yes, for Amanda it would have been thrilling but it would not have served the purpose. He lulled us in false security, made her soft, lovely looking, warm-hearted but in the end just did what he does best: he trolled us. He wanted to make absolutely sure nothing whatsoever could glimpse through Amanda's acting and how she interpreted her role in TEH and TSoT.

And yet they had those little things like positioning her in front of the bison skull. And there are other things in TSoT I do not like in connection with her but they are already in the script (her manipulation of Sherlock, her remarks to him about Sholto, etc.). So either the script itself is ambiguous or it is just me (and some others ).

You've been here for a while now, so let me just ask you: Are you under the impression that people on this board who argue against Mary are actually bashing her (or Amanda) and are haters? Or do you think that they have arguments with which they support their opinion? Are discussions about Mary not what you would call civilized?

Hm, I have a feeling we misunderstood each other there... Up to the day before yesterday the discussion was quite civilized. And never made a fuss about that I'm not camp Mary at all, soooo... There are lots and lots of good reasons to support opinions here, no doubt. The only thing I stated was that if Swanprides statement was true it would be disappointing in more than one way: we want people with different opinions around. Fangirling and dreaming is for THE thread. I am not a fan of Mary but I don't want anybody to feel they have to stay away. And it is quite mean to belittle the work Susi does as mod, whoever feels uncomfortable with something should address her, not fading away and complaining in pms to someone who is not in the mods role.

Thank you very much for clarifying, mrshouse. And I agree with you. Also, if someone is not happy with my being mod while voicing my own opinions they may address the other mods as well. But I somehow get the feeling that there are not too many people around here who do not feel welcome - and I am glad about that.

As long as I'm welcome to keep paddling in the shallow end of the pool I'm happy.

Thank you Susi. Now if you'll excuse me I"m going to spend the rest of the day watching BC's Ice Bucket Challange on a continuous loop.

I'm watching the continuous loop now without sound. So hubby won't notice.
