No. And I think they both have the skills to convince us if they were meant to.

I don't agree with everything the author mentions, but it's true of course... we really need Sherlock and John back together, both emotionally and in 221B.

Don't mind me.  My coffee was getting cold so I thought adding  a few hot tears might make it better.

Please Susi.
Not that I'm the least bit sensative lately.
These days even True Blood can make me boohoo.

It was Christmas. Everyone wears red or green on Christmas, even if the only thing they own in one of those colors is truly awful. I find the red lipstick way more annoying than the red turtleneck. But poor Mary, she can't win, not with us johnlock people. lol  Mary's actress is a wonder, though-- her tears seem genuine here. 'Course, we all know, she's got real chemistry with John's actor. heh

Never dared to spell it out loud because it's not supposed to come across as Amanda-bashing. But the costumes.....Gah! The red lip-stick...double gah!!
I think she was the prettiest in TEH in the restaurant. Decent, soft make up, warm smile.

I thought she was gorgeous on her wedding day as well. Soft, gentle, in love. Dressed in lace, a real lady. ha...  as if.....  sorry, I think I'm 100 miles off topic.

Yes. I am relieved as well because I did not want to be a poor pregnant woman/Amanda bashing idiot but she looks so terrible in that scene that my first thought was: Why the hell should he go back to that woman when he can have that glorious looking man? But maybe this is just shallow me.

*pushes over to make room in the warm shallows for Susi and anyone else who wants to join us*  Let's face it, no one in that show is as hot as our Sherlock. The man should carry a big stick, to ward off his admirers, lol.

And as for the record - a pregnant woman does not necessarily have to look like that. Or did they want to show how badly she has been suffering from John's distance?

I don't know, but I suspect we're reading way too much into how they dressed the woman. ??

Christmas. People get gaudy on Christmas, especially if they've been into the eggnog. Being pregnant, we can assume she was sober, but....  still, the red and green outfit, I believe that can be blamed solely on what day it was. OTOH, there's no excuse for the overbleached hair and the red lips.  Just my opinion, and I am NOT bashing AA, who I think is a classy, lucky, wonderful lady. The hair, make up and clothing were not chosen by AA, I'm virtually certain of that.

Yes, her lovely appearance disappears the more we get to know about her. This is really cleverly done and cannot be coincidence.
I am still trying to get my head around why they make her wear the same coat in the bonfire scene and on the tarmac.

Do evil women wear red?  Maybe. Or maybe it was just meant to show that she wasn't a wealthy woman, so she couldn't afford lots of coats. How many pregnant ladies have more than one maternity coat, after all?  Most of us had one, and we made it do for all occasions until we could get back into our regular clothes.

There are all kinds of shades of red, they could have found a shade that might have looked good even on Mary - if they had wanted to.

Right. I'm sure they were sending some kind of message(s) to the viewers, with everything they showed Mary wearing, in every scene. Maybe the ugly Xmas get-up was an effort to let us see how messed up her life was right then-- 'cause let's face it, it was very very messed up.

Erm, sorry, but I have to disagree there. I just don't get why it always says that because they are a real life couple they must have fantastic chemistry on screen. I saw very little of that. I can fully understand that the thought of casting her comes up but - and this is just my opinion- that they were not the best of matches. Maybe I would have less trouble with the figure if they had done a proper casting, I'm sure there a good actresses who can do great with Martin. Can couples only be played by real life couples when they both happen to be actors? I hope not. This is an example where the chemistry is BORING! And I feel betrayed that this is the loving couple when I see Benedict and Martin setting the screen on fire in comparison.

Re: The comprehensive Johnlock guide (Johnlockers only)

I totally agree, mrshouse - and by the way, your new avatar is soooo hilarious...!
Maybe that's exactly what they wanted, maybe they wanted John and Mary to not have as much chemistry as John and Sherlock. John can have chemistry with women, we did see that in TBB with Sarah - at least I saw it. So it's quite interesting that it all feels a bit off with John and Mary. And I really can't decide (yet?) whether that's what they wanted - or whether the chemistry between Martin and Amanda just doesn't work.

Thanks
I'm a Consulting Criminal now, I felt I had to polish up a bit
I actually can imagine movies where they would be great. Can anyone else for example picture Martin and Amanda in "Father of the bride" as the parents, too? They would be hilarious...
BUT NOT HERE!

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Sherlockians where we discuss how many coats a woman should own and in what shade of red.
