watch To the Ends of the Earth -? file my VAT declaration
I just rented this movie from netflix. disappointing since it wasn't subtitled (dvd) or closed captioned (TV) I saw this movie online with subtext, and it was BRILLIANT!! If you don't mind me asking-- what is a VAT declaration? .

I agree with what all are saying about the internet. some stories I've heard are horrble, about the dating sites anyway. BUT I had the opportunity of meeting 3 wonderful girls I met on another fan site, but THIS was after I'd talked to them via a chat room online , and it wasn't until 2 years after I talked to them online, that I got to meet them in person. I'm old enough to live on my own, but my family was a little upset about this.I still went and met them and it turned out wonderfull. (ok, so maybe we COULD do a chat-box after all) But, I can't imagine what my life would be if I didn't have the internet. And we STILL need to be careful, you know? But I like going to message boards, it's very nice to have someone to "talk" to about your interests.
OK--I haven't been feeling well. Had a kidney stone on my right side (it's out now), and I feel like I have another one now in my left side. Funny thing is, I saw A urology dr this past friday, and I did some tests for him, BUT he didn't actually follow thru on those. He didn't bother getting getting the results back. Yes I've seen him before. I get so mad sometimes after I see this particular dr. I also have a bad middle back problem.
Other than that---I've been reading, sleeping, Just plain boredom. Not finishing my jigsaw puzzle, tho. Shame on me.
Is anyone else besides me having trouble with your keyboard? I mean, mine is only 6 months old, and already some of the letters have disappeared. I'm not a good typist so I have to look at the letters.
well that's enough for now. Have a good day/evening, everyone!!

Can you ask to see a different urologist? Kidney stones are amazingly painful. I know a few people who have had them. The grown men admit to having cried when they had them.
For your back problem have you seen a physiotherapist? I slipped a disc in my lower bak over 10 years ago but am still suffering the effects I.e. permanent nerve damage in my left foot and heel and really bad cramp spasms down my left leg. Last night it was really bad and woke me up twice. I think when I drive my big lorry it makes it worse. Also sitting down for a long time starts it off again. Watch your posture when you are sitting Kitty Kat and use a lumbar support if you can.
I hope your stones pass soon or that they can do something about them. Get well soooooooon!!

Hi Sherlockskitty. I too have trouble with kidney stones. You need to be seeing the right specialist. A urologist is fine for getting stones out, but if you are a chronic stone maker like me then you really need to be seeing a Nephrologist (kidney doctor). A Urologist is like a plumber, but the Nephrologist knows how the kidneys function with your body metabolism, etc. I switched over to one and he got right to the heart of the problem. First he had me do a 24 hour urine collection - every time you pee during a full 24 hour period you have to collect it and put it in one big jug and then bring it to the lab. He had me do this twice so he could make a comparison. Tests show I have hypercalciuria (excessive urinary calcium excretion). About 5 to 10% of the population has this. He put me on chlorthalidone. It's really a blood pressure/diuretic medication but tests have shown it can help keep new stones from forming in the kidneys, I loathe being on any kind of medication but I am willing to take this one because I don't want another stone. The last one I had lodged in my upper left ureter and wouldn't budge and had to be removed surgically. It didn't hurt too much because it wasn't moving but I was getting infected from it. They also had to insert a stent for a couple of weeks. Have you ever had one of those? They completely suck!
Also had a herniated disc a couple of years ago like Davina. Left me with numbness in my left heel and lateral foot and those occasional cramps in the night. It's called radiculopathy. Luckily no real back aches any more unless I overdo it so I try to be careful. PT can help maybe.
For both conditions drinking lots and lots of water can help as I'm sure you know. Feel better soon SK. I'll be thinking about you.

SATs (from Wikipedia): The SAT is a standardized test for college admissions in the United States. The SAT is owned, published, and developed by the College Board, a nonprofit organization in the United States. The test is intended to assess a student's readiness for college. It was first introduced in 1926, and its name and scoring have changed several times.
Davina - herniated disk. Awful. Had one in my neck and got this pulley contraption to relieve the pressure. I looked ridiculous in it, and when it wasn't in use, I was afraid it looked like some sort of sex apparatus hanging from the door. I'm OK now most of the time, but always nervous about it returning. I wish yours would go away.
Skitty - I should really let a Brit answer this, but VAT stands for Value Added Tax, I believe. When we left England for home, we could have gotten some VAT we had paid refunded, but the paperwork just seemed like more trouble than it was worth.

Life without the internet? *jumps of St Barts*

Sherlockskitty - ah, the VAT declaration. VAT is value added tax. When I do a translation I add 19% in taxes to be paid by the publisher. However, I may not keep the sum but have to pass it on to the Inland Revenue. From the sum to be paid I can deduce the VAT included in everything connected with my job - office supplies, research books and trips, petrol (that's gas in the US?), etc. I do this every three months with a computer programme which isn't very complicated but I have to get myself to do it. In between watching films with BC

LOL
Hm, I guess when I made my Abitur and would have had internet that time, it would have ended worth. I wouldn't have had any time to learn!!
And now the internet makes my back worse (who does not have a slipped disc, I wonder?); cause I don't have any time to move!
And then all the movies I have to watch ---------------------> Susi
BUT I put Cabin Pressure on my iPod and had a good laugh while having a 30-minutes-walk this morning. (Hopefully nobody saw me....)
Now I wonder if it could be possible somehow to check the internet while cycling to my office...??

Yes, I can hardly wait to listen to them.
I just looked up the phrase "No shit Sherlock" because I wanted to know what it meant. And there was a page where someone asked what the word Sherlock meant . I mean, are there really people on this planet who can read and write and use a computer and don't know Sherlock Holmes??

Well, yes... some of them are just.... vacant.

thanks for your well wishes everyone---am still not feeling too good but i HAVE to move around, and I don't hurt as much when I'm posting here now....Thanks for your advice abt the kind of dr I shud be seeing. I am going to make some phone calls tomorrow. (I use a tty) I think maybe one of my discs has slipped again, that's how bad this feels.
thanks for the explanation abt the VAT thing. Yeah it's called Income tax in the USA and Internal Revenue Service or IRS is what we call them tax collector people.
So, Anyway--what's this voting thing going on here? I've been doing the BBCA polls-- it's now down to Ben Vs Colin for 1st and 2nde place, and between Martin and someone else for 3rd place. WOW!! Can't wait to see who wins. our boy BC is certainly doing very well!!

I'd like to know what the website said about "No sh*t, Sherlock." As a native speaker, I have always understood it as a arcastic response to someone who has said something obvious; in other words, "It didn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure that out." Another such response is "Duh!"
I think someone pointed out that there was an article entitled with a takeoff on the expression and referring to the purple shirt: "Nice shirt, Sherlock." Oh, I'm sorry, I cannot get off the topic of the shirt and I know it doesn't belong in this thread.

The shirt is always welcome, Veecee .

Everything belongs in a chit-chat thread!
I have to work hard not to listen to the latest episodes before I have gone through the older ones....
AND not to start a new one right now - when Tatort begins in 25 minutes.... (btw. I don't like Tatort not as much anymore as I did before Sherlock. Does that mean I am obsessed? )

Yes, I suppose so. I shall be thinking all the time what would Sherlock deduce from this? I mean Ballauf and Schenk do make quite a nice team but …
I really, really like Joachim Król (whom I once had the pleasure spend an evening with) and Nina Kunzendorf. They're just brilliant (as Arthur would put it).
Sorry, this was German and Austrian insiders' talk .

I always think: BORING!
Today it will be another repetition from 2010. So maybe I'm lucky and we have seen it already - and watch (or listen to...) something else.....

That's what you forgot in your holiday-plans, or am I wrong?
At least I should go something to eat now - would be so sad not to make it to 2013 just because I forgot to eat....

yes, mattlock you must eat. We cannot have our members avoiding the neccessary nourishments. you know, i'm feeling like all I want to eat is a chocolate donut. but I cannot have chocolate. I gotta get an apple instead, which is fine.
yes the shirt is welcome in here. come here, shirt!!
Hey, I'm watching 7th heaven marathon on tv. I used to have tapes of the eps, but I recorded over those long time ago. It's nice to watch something from the past now and then. tonight on PBS it's Inspector Lewis. I like that show.
Who or what is tardot?
