Yes, gently. I wonder about "Lost City...", maybe the special will be without Sherlock?
Anyway, so will it be a Christmas Special or an Easter Special?
It seems it'll take longer than two years for S4 to be broadcast.

Awesome news. I'm not even worried when it will air, just glad that they have locked down some dates. And I can't believe we are getting a special on top of it, too. Amazing!

If they start Jan. 2015 filming the special and later that year S4.... makes airing in 2016 for me. *closes calculator and calendar*

I'm pretty sure we won't get S4 at the beginning of 2016. With Benedict doing "Hamlet" (and "The Hollow Crown?) next year until October, I could imagine they will start shooting S4 of "Sherlock" only afterwards. So maybe in the autumn of 2016? Or even later, if they want to stick to that January release policy.
The special is something different... could be a christmas special for 2015 then.

Please don't hate me for this, but I'd really like to know if ALL the cast will be in the special, because I thought BC was filming in January, and this "expect the unexpected" stuff has me nervous

I'm optimistic that it will be like S3 with the special airing around Christmas (2015) and S4 starting in January of 2016. I can live with this.

But how is that supposed to happen? They'd have to shoot almost the whole next year to have S4 ready for January 2016.

That's why I wrote that Sherlock will be probably in tv in 2017. I can't see any other solution

As I understand this - they are going to shoot Special in 2015 and in 2016 they are going to shoot series 4. But maybe I am wrong.

I know I haven't been here for a while, but I asked Sherlockology for clarification about the ambigous wording for the filming date and this is what they said;

'Filming on the special will take place in Jan 2015. There will be an unspecified break and then S4 filming later in the year'

So...it looks like that filming will take place in 2015, later in the year!!!! YAY!
