Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

I don't like Mary, BTW, and it's not because she gets between John and Sherlock. It's because I deem her to be immoral. I'm not giving Sherlock a free ride, but his problems with morality (Janine for instance) don't touch Mary's. I cannot just forget that she was willing to murder her husband's best friend, whom she knows he loves above anything. I'm not okay with her lying, lying, lying, lying. Yes, she's got some charm, and yes she seems a rather good choice for John in some ways. But she CANNOT be trusted, notwithstanding Sherlock's assessment to the contrary.

Don’t snivel, Mrs. Hudson. It will do nothing to impede the flight of a bullet. What a tender world that would be.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Excuse me?
'what will peope think' represents fairly common sentiment of straight men who do not want to be seen at all 'gay'.
No Sherlock isn't hampered, beacause he does not respond to anybody sexually.
We will not see any love story between Sherlock and John at all. The Sherlock team have made this abundantly clear.
It is not erotic love at all, it is bromance, the platonic love of 2 close friends.
How is it any way erotic?
I don't think John lives for what people think at all, he's his own man.
You may be perfectly right about Mary, but that says nothing about Sherlock and John.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

People wanting to make homosexuality about sex are the homophobes. AND, look at the term that's used: "homosexuality." It's reductive and demeaning. As if it's simply a question of sex.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

@ mrshouse As I said, this may all be true.
But it tells us nothing about Sherlock and John's relationship.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

So what term should we use? Queer? Is that better (honest question).

@ Harriet and Tenderworld. You may be perfectly right.
But again, this tells us nothing about Sherlock and John.

Susi, I personally don't like labelling.
It's up to everybody to decide for themselvesI

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

"No. They're lying. It's obvious." The writers are yanking us. They can say whatever they want to say. It's not what is said (as this show points up again and again) but what is done that matters. "We will not see any love story between Sherlock and John at all." What?? We've seen one of the most beautiful love stories ever, already. Sherlock's actions on behalf of John are love at its highest expression. John I'm a bit disappointed with at the moment. Hope he redeems himself.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Don't know what term. Not sure we need a term. Maybe part of the point of this whole narrative is that love is a complex thing and we can love different people in different ways. If it's "true" love then it will manifest in our actions on behalf of the beloved.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

I totally agree.
But there is a difference between how we love our parents, siblings, children and how we are in love with a partner.
