Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

I am always astonished how Benedict - whose look is so unique - can completely change his appearance to match the role.
As if he was a different man in every one of them.

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Yes!!! I know how crazy this is going to sound, but when I watch him in Sherlock, I honestly don't see Benedict Cumberbatch. He carries himself differently and I know he's doing something with his voice because he sounds so different. I just know it's him because of the cupid's bow and the mole on his neck.

John: That's clever. So you scratch their backs and...
Sherlock: Yes. And then disinfect myself.

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

He truly is a chamelion!

I fell for Sherlock first and just couldn't get into Benedict... not until I saw him in a few other things and started out admiring his talent... before I knew it I was just madly and utterly in love... but for a long while I was only madly in love with Sherl... it felt very weird

Chamelion is a good word!
Honestly, with this cold pale alabaster face he´s almost unrecognisable as the man who appeared on those previous photos:

It's almost like it's two different people... and it's more than his hair and makeup... it's him. He's that talented!

Which was my first attraction to him... that is a true talent

Someone else who has noticed that!

Just look at this comparative shot from TSOT. Goes to show how lighting can make someone look very different. During the speech, the eyes are eerily light, the skin doughy, and he looks really young. In the darker shot, he looks much older and his face seems more gaunt.

There's another example of this in TEH. After his parents leave, he looks like he's about 20, but in his conversation with John right at the end, he looks much older and more like the Sherlock in the photo you just posted.

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

I do think those are intended and that is such a cool thing. If you use your eyes you can deduce so much from things like that in the show

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

I was watching the commentary for The Great Game and Ben was commenting how the lighting in the living room scene--where John walks in to see Sherlock + violin and Mycroft--makes him look so angular, after which Martin chipped in saying the lighting made him look like a potato or something to that effect. XD Lighting and angle work seem subtle factors but they have quite an influence! Noticed also that the style of lighting seemed to have changed for Season 3. In Season 1 and 2 they worked at making Ben look ethereal, detached, all sharp angles. It's slightly different for S3, can't put my finger on it.

I really, really need to rewatch Van Gogh... he was fantastic!

Not only was he fantastic and heartbreaking (the shaggy dog scene, OMG), he was perfect physically. I don't think there's any other actor out there today who has such a close resemblance to Van Gogh, what with the cheekbones and greenish eyes and the cupid's bow and the reddish hair.

Here are two stills where Ben seems to be posing for two of Van Gogh's most iconic self-portraits. That beard, those sad eyes... This movie is probably my favourite thing Ben has done, hands down. It's definitely the one I've watched the most.

Mary

Yes, need to watch it again as well. Benedict was just convincing in it. Never thought that a documentary of Van Gogh would impress me that much.
