Well, we are not sure about that.

Well, not in the time we've known him, anyhow.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Just re-watched the scene and also cannot see that he actually "made fun of it". He looked quite serious, irritated and thoughtful.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

No, he can't believe John is asking him if he has a boyfriend...and teases him.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Hm, I still don't see that.  Maybe have to watch it again. Several times maybe.
And of course John asked for a boyfriend after Sherlock stressed: Girlfriend? Not really my area.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Yes.
John was letting Sherlock know it was ok if he was gay...
He assumed, cos Sherlock said he wasn't into girls.
But he was misunderstanding what Sherlock meant.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

I cannot see any teasing in this scene. Apart from the fact that Sherlock generally does not tease people but tends to tell them the truth quite brutally. Subtle teasing is definitely not his area.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Yes and he clearly tells John he's not into girls and while he's flattered by John's proposal, he is married to his work.

And then Sherlock misunderstood what John meant.               Or maybe not.

Time for bed, I think. I start seeing things which are not there and vice versa. Bsssss...

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Same with me.

One last remark: I will never see how work can fulfill all the needs a human being usually has. This married to work thing has always been a cliché for me used by Sherlock to distance himself from others. It is not a substitute for human relationships. And it is not for Sherlock as we see in later episodes.

And now I am going to sleep.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Watched it one last time (for tonight) and stumbled about this:

"You have a girlfriend?"
"Girlfriend? Not really my area."
"So you have a boyfriend?"
"No."    Just: "No."

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..................................................................

Good night all!

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

BBC Sherlock just like ACD canon Sherlock have a very low opinion on women, I always interpreted him saying not really his area is that he doesn't seek relations with them as he seems to view them as distractions or seems to pick fun at their shallow attempts to woo him if they attracted to him by humilation of their physical appearance. I mean look at how he treated Molly. Of course, I think his views on women have changed a bit since Series 2. Well, at least, he starts to treat Molly better anyway. XD

Also, when Sherlock says No, he says it really fast, but it is sharp and direct. Like someone wanting to change the subjects, like he didn't want to discuss it further. Poor John only asks because I think he doesn't want to think he would be the third wheel if Sherlock was in a relationship with a man or woman.

Almost a bit too fast if you ask me.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Actually, I'm not sure about that; he treats women the same as treats men, I think - as equals.
So, for instance, when he thinks Molly's lips look better with lipstick, he won't refrain from commenting just because she's a woman and it might hurt her feelings. No, he goes right ahead and says it, like he does when he doesn't like John's moustache.
Only when he's deducing Molly has made a special effort for a date, before spotting the gift she's bought him and realising it's him she made the effort for ( I don't think he ever realised she liked him in that way before that), does he start treating her differently - and then he begins treating her with more respect - not the disparagement you might expect from someone who you might think has a lie opinion of women and their "crushes".

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Oh, he knew of Molly's crush on him as that is what he uses to get what he wants from her. He knew she had a crush on him, but what Sherlock didn't anticipate was the fact that Molly really did seem to genuinely care for him. He realized that in the Christmas party and realized that he had treated her poorly.

Indeed. He probably really wants to change the subject at this point - the question then just would be why. Also, he could have answered something like "Not my area, either", but he didn't. So what he actually says is that he doesn't have a boyfriend and that a girlfriend is out of the question. Nothing more, nothing less.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Sherlock does begin to be kinder to Molly after he realises she has an unrequited crush on him. Why?
Unusually for Sherlock at this point..he can empathise....Why?
He has an unrequited crush himself.

Not Molly..maybe Irene..but she was clearly interested in him..so no...
Then who does that leave...maybe John..
Maybe thats not unrequited....but why can't he reveal his heart?
Oh...Moriarty just told him...gonna burn it.
And he does.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

By the time of the Pool scene, Sherlock has eventually realised there is another human being he actually cares for as much as himself...possibly more than himsellf.
But it's friendship. as recognised by anybody of any worth in the show.
