Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Idk if it's been mentioned  b4 in a johnlock context..or maybe OT..
Anyway..I happened to watch some early episodes of The Office recently...and was kind of struck at how similar MF /Tims crush on Dawn was portrayed and acted..as to how MF acts in some John / Sherlock moments...so cute/funny..anyways...
I don't remember the Tim/Dawn crush ever being disputed.
It just was.
Would love to see a similar finale for Sherlock @ John.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

I've become so Johnlocked that it's the only kind of fanfic I want to read.  When I listen to pop songs on the radio I'm always trying to interpret or twist the lyrics into a Johnlock sentiment and then have fun wondering "Would that Sherlock's POV or John's POV?" I sometimes do the same with classical music especially if it's hyper-romantic. I fantasize about the scene I imagine them in to that music. I'm Johnlocked because they are both so beautiful to me and so perfectly suited to each other I just can't imagine them apart or with anyone else.  I'm a bit possessive about that interpretation but also understand those that don't want to see it that way. I'm happy for the show to continue in that vein of ambiguity because it's so much fun to find, analyze, and pick apart all those wonderful/possible Johnlock moments.  And I must say I have come around on Series 3 (after a slow and uneasy start) as maybe the most Johnlocked of all from Sherlock's POV concerning John and what he would do for him.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Nobody has ever doubted that Sherlock loves John more than any other being on the planet.
But he's not in love with him.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

Agreed. There are more types of love than romantic love.

And just as beautiful.

Ok, BB, you've said this often enough, and very authoritatively I might add.  So just for fun, without using any material from interviews with the Moftiss or Ben or anyone else, and using just the material as it is presented in the show itself, can you prove that Sherlock "loves" John but is not "in love with him".

As for me, I couldn't prove Sherlock was NOT in love with John.

Re: Johnlock: The Official Debate

To be honest, when I first watched Sherlock, I was confused.
But then I caught up to speed.
Plus, that's the WHOLE point.
We do have the interviews...
The show is not made in a sterile bubble.
Besides, Johnlockers also bring in an unaired pilot and fan fiction.
Further, I know John is a damaged person and I know Sherlock is unique, but really, he had years to ask Sherlock to marry him.
Again, obviously John was suffering the loss of Sherlock and was seeking companionship.
But he and Mary were already living together, so the fact he then asked her to marry him must have accounted for something,...and went through with it, even though Sherlock was back.

Same here.

As for "not made in a sterile bubble", that's not how analysing film or tv works. I did film studies at university and I can tell you: You go with what you see on screen. Interviews with the director or writer don't count. First and foremost, you watch the film and analyse it. And believe me, there is a lot to analyse, from lighting to camera work, from character development to you name it.
Of course we as fans know lots of interviews with Mofftiss, Benedict and Martin, Sue Vertue, and I certainly take note of what they have to say. But the show speaks for itself and quite frankly, it should speak for itself and should not be in need of help for interpretation from the creators.

And then of course: ask five different people and they might give you five different interpretations. And that's totally fine, as long as they can give convincing examples for their interpretation.
